Thankyou Victoria Police for screwing me once again. This time I was pulled over for a roadworthry, (an being a full-time student i havent exactly been giveing my old VN the TLC she deserves, due to the Low $ factor). They found 3 things wrong straight off the bat
1. Worn Front P/S Tyre.
2. Hand Brake Cable not secured properly.
3. Steering Wheel not approved for this vehicle (thats funny when i got the first RWC it had the exact same steering wheel on it).
So now i need a full RWC for my ol beast, so I take it down to the mechanics and they right me a list of things that need fixing/replacing, A LONG F*%^ing list. Probaly about $1000 worth of things that need to be done before monday today being Wednesday and me currently having $0 in my bank account.
I'd once again just like to thank The Victorian Police force for constantly hassiling the hard working tax payers of this country and letting the car theives and criminals run free.![]()
If its stuff do do with safety, like if your brakes needed bleeding, then good on them, but if everything is in tip top shape, then you could argue that they're revinue raising.
The steering wheel could've been overlooked the first time, hence the reason they do continued checks.
You got off easy spending 1000. I've spent $6000 and the car still hasn't seen the road.

I have to agree with the above post that for you to have to spend $1000 to get your car in roadworthy condition then the car is not in very good condition and is more than likely unsafe. If your car is in this condition then i believe the police have every right to put a defect notice on it. At the end of the day it does not matter if you have any money or not, if the car is unroadworthy then it should be put off the road untill it is safe, simple as that!
Damn straight, in melbourne at least you have access to public transport. Out here in the stick we've got SFA. I too am a full time student, yet somehow I manage to keep my POS VN roadworthy, so stop complaining and fix the damn thing, (hint: if ya quit drinking and going out on weekends it really does free up some cash, just a suggestion it worked for me). Also, do you plan to do the work yourself? That can also really decrease the cost of repairs, labour is heaps expensive.
Some things that I agree with you on though, the steering wheel isn't approved? WTF are they on about, if it's round and in decent condition whats the problem? And there are definitely more important things they should be worrying about IMHO.
Cars cost money. I'm a full time student and i still earn enough to run it, as well as put a bit of money away AND lead a pretty good lifestyle.
Well heres the thing, i took my car to Vicroads today. The after market steering wheel which was deemed unsafe by this very Crude constable was infact very roadworthy, actually the Vicroads fella said "A lot more roadworthy than a stock VN wheel", and took a look at my handbrake cable and said that was fine as well. Which is what every mechanic has said to me. The cost of the road worthy was manly for new tyres, Seat re-upholsetring, new Oxy-sensor, an new front discs and a few bits & Bobs.
Also students do pay tax Shamus probaly just as much as you. I no i dont recieve any Youth Allowance from the government.
My Grandfather was a Police officer for 30 years and my uncle has been serving the NSW police force for over 12. This young Constable was just a bloody pig getting hes daily power fix, and raising some revenue for the Good ol Boys up in Parliment.
Oh and BTW I also have 2 Part time jobs one on weekends. And 1 delivering pizzas at night (which i cant do anymore). But living away from home and earning minimum wage and not being eligble for youth allowance things are pretty damn tight!
WTF does seat upholstry have to do with being roadworthy? Ohh...torn fabric must be a major defect??? :my:Originally Posted by Muffo
And as for the O2 sensor, how does that come into it? I mean sure it will make it run a bit rough and chew a lot more fuel than it needs to if it's busted, but that isn't part of the roady is it?

You'd Be suprised. They're pretty damn stringent especially because this one has to be inspected by a Vicroads officer, so if theres anythng wrong the mechanic could be in the shit. I always thought seat upholestry was stupid too but i think its only the drivers seat.

youth allowance + rent assistance + away from home rate + working 16 hours a weekend + demonstrating first and second years 2 or three times a week = at least 500/week takehome :P although i did have to study till 3am most nights![]()

Mate forget the steering wheel !!!!! Bald front tyre, front discs need replacing.
Don't complain, you are lucky they got to you before you had to hit the skids in the wet and possibly kill someone.
You would then be complaining they had not got you when the judge handed down 6yrs in the can for manslaughter.
If your pissed about the way the copper treated you then that is an entirely different issue.
Sounds like theres a bit from column A and a bit from column B here. Vic Roads are very strict, yes, but some of the issues with your car are important for safety reasons. On the other hand, the steering wheel and seat fabric needing to be fixed is just downright ludicrous. I am in Queensland and my old VN was still officially roadworthy with only 5 cylinders running.

^^^^Fair point that one. If you're getting around on with any bald tyres it's only going to be a matter of time until you get pulled over, or kill someone. I'm a poor uni student too, and I still manage to keep my car in roadworthy condition. Tyres and brakes are a bit of a no brainer, if you can't afford to keep them in good nick, you really can't afford to run your car.
Sell it and get a pushbike.

Absolutely spot on there mate.Originally Posted by mouce
did the copper actually explain why those items were UNroadworthy that you found out later by Vitroads said were quite okay.... if this was so, maybe you should make a complaint against him..... its seems that he doesn't his job very well....
