ive jst taen my car through its inspection and found out that these lights here are not Australian design rule approved....even though every place in australia advertises them to be
just as a warning to everyone make sure you have the legal lights as there is 2 types of these and only one is legal

What is it about those that makes them non-ADR approved? The lack of a coloured rear reflector plate?

Wagons/utes have the reflectors on the bumpers, not on the lights.....

The clear style sedan ones however have a white reflector which is illegal.......

Thats right you will get defected for the clear style lights for the wagons/utes.
The are not ADR approved even thought they have 'E' markings on the lens.
The people that manufacture these lights have not tested these lights to conform with the ADR's.
Some DEPO brand lights have been tested but these are only for Mitsi Lancers.
Transport SA Vehicle Standards have a list of all Aftermarket lights that can be fitted to vehicles. Its not a very big list either!
It is a requirement for a red reflector to be at the rear of the car. Whether is is incoporated in the light eg. VR/VS or seperate eg the utes/wagons.
Therefore us VR/VS owners with the faded reflectors on our taillights can be defected.

yep, lucky, the cops havent been picky with me yet, im all good.

but you should say, "can" get defected. im sure most cops will be fine with it as long as you dont piss them off and the lights glow the right colour.

i actually noticed last time i was looking through our listing at work that he wagon ones are listed as non adr approved.

The ones i want for my sedan are just the ones with the white indicator, the rest still red though. I thought they were the ones i ordered in but they were completely clear (mind you this was before the completely clear ones were released, and only the clear indicator ones were available). I was wondering why when i was ordering them, the guy said they were for show purposes only :P

Ive got a gun metal garnish, so the clear ones didnt exactly appeal to me either. Just wanted the clear indicator ones since they dont create too much attention to your car (plus i just need something to replace my rapidly fading genuine drivers light - which is only a few years old and the passenger side one is an original genuine one and still dark as ever!)
