    Unhappy stalling auto

hey guys, ive got a VN

and i need some help on what can cause an auto to stall ....its in need a service as it just clocked on 200,000....could this be contributing towards it stalling???

another question: as i am a uni student and don't have a job(not through lack of trying though) money is rare occurrence in my bank account..so i am gonna have to do a 'home' service..i know i am going to have to do the oil...but what else should i been looking at changing or filling up etc...

Help us out a little, when does it stall? Is it only when you're stopped at lights, only when you're accelerating? Only doing 100kph?

Does it still change gears nicely? Or is there a big lag between gears?

it stalls when i first start up the car and put it into D and take off. it happened to day as i was driving off out of a maccas drive thru after i put it into D after it had been in P. it also sometimes happens after i reverse out of my driveway and flick it into D and take off.

yes there is a big lag between gears.

no it does not stall when changing from Drive to Reverse.

cheers for the comments and sorry for being so vague...

Try changing the transimission fluid. If it's really low or really old, it can cause problems on take off. And it can also account for the big lag between gears.

If that doesn't fix the problem, then it could be something a bit more sinister.

mine is exactly the same. Lag between gears and all. I no my gb is on its way out but that would contribute to the fact that its stalling. would it??? The fluid level is good and its not burnt at all. I cant drive it at the moment cause i have no licence but i found the other day that my auto trans summp was almost sitting on the ground. All the bolts where that loose they took atleast 2 turns with fingers to get firm. Ive tightened all them up now. It got driven down the street yesterday but i cant remember what the gearchangers were like.lol.. I hope that fixes my lag a bit. Why would the auto sump come loose like that???

@Phoenix21, I'd be looking at your power steering pump/rack. If it's stalling when you turn the wheel like that it normally indicates that the pump is having to work WAY too hard, and ends up stalling the engine.

Could be a worn rack, or a dead/dying pump.
