Default Anyone cured a 5 liter of a drinking problem?

I can't get less than 14l per 100ks 100% highway driving no matter what I do on my VP, The cars running fine, runs strong but the fuel just vanishes! before my eyes : ) even with a grandma right foot. Any ideas for me? I'm willing to replace every part that could be causing the problem

clean your injectors and check your sensors.... check your o2 sensor and idle air control valve first though..... mine averages 10 on the highway

Yup I know I should be seeing about 10 on the highway but I'm not, and it's very anoying , I've replaced the 02 sensor = zero difference, replaced the fuel filter, replaced the dizzy cap, rotor button zero zero difference

within reason yes.... like keeping it stock but changing the ignition timing and duration does help the fuel economy...
unless your like hozy and have a chip thats designed for 103 octane
    ZERO fuel economy lol

OK Boss, I've never had an error code on the ECU either, shows all a OK, IAC maybe suspect but can that make the fuel consumption change? the car has stalled on me a couple of times. I might order a new air sensor, sometimes a bit weird with the car it's allways needed more throttle to hold 100km/h than my V6 did, I've cured that a bit with a better tune but it's still not up to the V6's few millimeters throttle to cruise on 100 standards. Needs like at least 1cm maybe more on the V8

Not so sure the motor is tired? it can still rip a sticky 225 to smoke leaving a corner and still be spinning in 2nd gear at 90km/h, it makes no weird noises, idles smooth and uses no oil. One weird thing it does, it that it starts very fast when cold but turns over fairly slow when warm

    Yeah, with a die grinder
But apart from that, no not yet, it's not really dirty at all but I will pull the throttle body apart on the weekend and clean the IAC and investigate the TPS sensor, the throttle body is due for a shaft cutting and a bit more smoothing anyway

haha thats a better idea than what i was gonna say
but yeah the throttle position sensor needs to be correct to get the most out of your fuel economy because it could be telling your computer porkies about how much air is going into the manifold

Boona do you think rubbing brake rotors could make that much difference? because I do have a rotor or two that bind when you turn them, but it doesn't feel so bad with the wheel on when you give it a spin. I just wonder if something like that is stopping the car performing like it should, like it's .8 of a second quicker to 60mph than my VN right, and .8 seconds quicker over the 1/4 mile which means it gains NOTHING on the v6 from 100 to 140

are u going off what the dash says as an average, as around town i get about 14-20lt/100km then when i go on the hiway know i am barely using 9lt/100 but the dash still says 13-17km/km's if i don't reset it.

could be anything tho, a blocked cat, broken sesor thats not showing up as a fault or even just the injectors need a flush. i drive my car hard and i still get about 350-450 km's out of an 80lt tank around town.
Never late, in a 30..4 lol

also highway driving is affected by your tyre pressures and load distribution and stuff, wheel alignment and wind resistance
lots of things to think about really,,

Nah I don't have any level 3 dash tech but I can put 40 liters in it drive to work and back for 3 days and be out of fuel, works out to be about 14l/100, I was grannying around the whole time except once this morning I got bored and when I saw a kangaroo and fog free area I wound her out down a back road till the wind was whistling pretty goood (must have been a windy morning, unusual with fog hey)

    Hey Foamy,

Replacing sensors gets to be expensive once you start doing a few. Since V8s & V6s use the same sensors, I'd recommend just swapping them with your V6. Just swap 1 at a time and see if it gets any better.

Also, is your TCC locking up?

    Good Luck.

    CATCH!

Hmm, ok how about engine health basics? Compression test on each cylinder amd check valve lift to make sure you don't have one or more cylinders sitting there drinking fuel and producing bugger all. That make any sense or am I too drunk for my own good? Also with your custom tune, have you messed around with the fuel map at all?

Well you know how my VP was getting bad economy like you VN, It still does 260-300, But on the freeway to camperdown i was doing at best guess about 10-11L on the freeways,
But for you, you should be able to run 9L on freeways,
Call me dumb but what about you last diff gear on freeways, When i drive to me it sounds like a 5 speed when the diff hits top @ 85kp/h what if your isn't and the revs stay up? How are your revs @ 100kp/h myn sits on 1700rpm @ 100.
