Sounds like you're using roughly 15 litres/100km, If you're driving it mainly in the city/suburbs that aint too surprising. Mine does around 13 to 14 litres/100km on mixed driving and putting the boot in a fair bit so sounds about right really. Injector cleaner might help a bit, probably not a noticeable amount though, but can't hurt to try. Fact is it's an oldish V8 and it's gonna drink some fuel. Greenfoam has a thread around here somewhere about his VP drinking a fair amount, ya might wanna watch that as well, see if he figures something out.

Default Mike is Bored, fuel problem

Mate u r lucky to get 400k from a tank.
I have a 5lt VN Berlina Wagon that gets about 250-300 to a tank.
Have had fuel system checked, been on dyno and tuned properly, yet, nothing helps. If u r going to run an inj clnr, use the Nulon brand, about $20, but worth it.

Ok so lots of 5 liters are using more fuel than they should, doesn't mean it's normal or right they used to and should get almost 10l/100 on the highway

Default What do you think? Sick car or sick Driver?

Dudes, I think i might have a car that was built on a wednesday if above is the case with all VN SS's.

I bought my car about november last year, and it reems all over my mums AU when it comes to efficiency. When i first got her around town i was getting just under 450k's. I thought i was dreaming so i kept checking and checking and checking, i couldn't prove myself wrong UNTIL i gave her a bit of a hard time and now my manifold has come lose and she is drinkin the juice like it's VB on a fridy arvo. But even still i'm getting 350 almost 370k's from a tank.

As far as i understand it the computer is a self learning and adapting computer, well thats the word on the street anyway. A mate told me to reset the computer then drive it real hard for a tank or 2 and then you'll get heaps of performance out of her. I didn't want to cause i feel as though i might lose some of this fantastic fuel economy that i'm getting from a 5ltr.

The people who had her before me did baby her a little bit for the time they had her (8yrs) i feel this had alot to do with it. I haven't had too much exoerience with 5ltrs but i'm still thrown back in my seat each time i give her a little squirt. Maybe the computer is something that could have something to do with things, as my car is totally stock with no mods at all except a stereo and door pods i think this should be looked at. Cause there's been quite a few times where i've blown off a VP SS with P&P heads and a few internals done, and a few VT SS's and the rest. Maybe i'm a good driver???? (Pfft as if) More like my cars a freak and i'm stickin with it.

Well there's my thoughts, hopefully i gave you's a bit chew on. Whatever Bakes your noodle really.

Dude 400ks from a 80 liter tank is 20l per 100ks that's not so good . My VP is doing much better than that and it's not right. I don't know what's wrong with your mums AU but my mums AU can happily use as little as 6 liters per 100ks on the highway

Just because it's a V8 doesn't mean it should use more fuel, you only need X amount of fuel for X amount of HP and at 1800 rpm there shouldn't be much difference except you have a bit more friction in the V8 but yeah I'm happy to use one more liter per hundred but that's about it and that's what the specs say it should use

LOL if you think your car is a freak why dont you spend alittle more and modify it. Then it might be a supercar.

I just had some Genie's fitted up to my car. Now it revs alittle lower then usual. Which is sweet becuz on the highway i was doing 110kms @ 2000rpm and 160kms just over 2500rpm.
I have since saturday morning put $50 premium in. And im now on 250kms with a 1/4 tank left. FLogging the shit out of it almost where ever i go becuz i like the new modification i had done friday Oh and can now brake the 2 tonne. IM happy

Dude, 450k's around town in my eyes is pretty good. 20 ltrs per 100k's if that was highway k's then yeah i'd be parkng her and leave her somewhere cause it'd be cheaper to do that. But around town i'm more than happy with it.

Honestly can you say that you get that around town, (I'm talking city living, not out in rupanyip-minyip where ever the heck that is) I don't know about you guys but i think there'd be a few out there who want something like that.

In reply to VNSSMAN, the $'s are happening. I don't plan on spending too much on little nitty gritty things, my mechanic said don't bother spending $'s on the small shtuff just get a blower and be done with it. So i'm saving, after i get the 19" fury's she's all go for the blower. My baby's done a few K's so apparenly she'll handle the slight nudge from the blower.

OH yeah, Broke the 2 tonne the week i got her. Infact was only 5K short of breakin it in 4th gear. I wound it off quite easily, but this might clear up if there's any mods done to it. Does anyone know the MAX speeds for each gear for a Standard SS? I'm yet to get a speedo from Autobarn that goes over 220, not all that easy to find. I can't wait to find out what it might get to in 5th.

    Later dudes.

Why would u want or need a speedo that exceeds 220k?
Did u read today's(Monday April 3), Herald Sun page 13, the ****wits caught driving at excessive speeds, doesn't that make u think about the way u drive, how Police are going to be watching every driver of V8's?
It's attitudes of people like u that gets the heat put on all other V8 drivers, u have no consideration or respect for laws and other drivers! You're a big man admitting to getting your car up to 200k's, does it make u feel like a hero?

    Dude, get used to it.

I get around 260km for my 70 bucks of fuel in my daily driven v8 calais. That works out to 20-21 l/100 km. This is strictly city driving with an average speed of 25-30km/hr (as indicated by the trip computer).

There is a real simple way to see if your car is using more fuel than it should: Take it on a long highway drive. If the fuel consumption drops to around 10-11 L/100km, then your car has nothing wrong with it.

Changed my leads today to new Bosch inductive spiral core jobies. Can't say that it fixed my slight "miss" at very high 5000+ revs but the low down slight throttle grunt has doubled, driveway riping front lawn spinning stuff, you know the one, it wasn't like that before, have serious traction issues every single time on a hard launch on the road too which wasn't the case before.

My fuel problems may be partly fixed since there is more power at those kinda throttle openings, we will see.......
