Default legality of 17s / how to

    Hey,

Might sound stupid, but since there are thousnads of cars on here with 17s, is there any legal problems with this? My VN came standard with 14s, and I thought you could only go 2 inches bigger (or 55mm someone said). So does everyone break the law? I want 17s

Also, is there any modification you need to do to fit them? And what does a VN look like with 17s, when NOT lowered (this might be me for a while...)

    Thanks a lot

Don't bother with the 17's Jack I don't think it suits the VN, I've had them on mine and it just looks wrong for me, looks like the moon buggy : ) plus they might be legal and they might not be, it depends on how you read the rule in Victoria anyway, I think you can go 2 inches bigger than the largest rim optional on that model, now does that model mean ALL VN's does it mean on your exectutive does it include HSV's, it all depends on what exectly are they talking about, Insurance companies mostly care only whats on your tire placard and you can go like 2 inches wider than that and one or two inches taller (something like that). In the end 15x7 inch interceptors are a very light wheel. (lighter than most alloy wheels) and so cheap they are almost free, 15 inch tires are cheap too, so have a hard think about that if you want to upgrade the 14's.

Probably one thing about 17's I don't like the most is that the low profile tires have almost no give in them and trying to drive on the highways around here that are a bit bumpy with nothing harder than FE2 is a bone shaking and car destroying experience

That'd be great, Because if I did lower mine at all, it would only be around fe2 height, cos I already scrape a fair bit at standard height. Whenever you can do it, that'd be good.

ok, rules in vic are(as written in latest avilable rules online):

wheel diameter can be anything as long as it isnt over 15mm bigger or smaller than factory tyre diameters.

width must not be more than 25mm wide than a factory width rim.

so you can have whatever diameter rims you want as long as you get the tyre profile right.

i think some vn's came out with 7" wide rims, not sure what ones though, so 8" wide should be ok.

then theres tyre load ratings, which i dont know much about, but i think thats mainly when you get to 18's and higher.

a new trend to get away with any wheels is to change your tyre placard sticker, theres many available from rare spares.

Thanks for all the responses, I'll need to think about what i'm going to do. 17s + non lowered = paris dakar suspension though. Hmm, maybe i'll just save up. Lol, I'm drunk.

yeah, i think they're so common that the cops would stick to busting 18s/19s. I'll think aboout it though. I am a student, 17 inch tyres are expensive...

not really.... 17's are pretty common and tyre places mark them down because they sell soo many tyres..... $180 is the average for a decent cheap pair of 17/235/45's
