When driving at 100Km'h my VP revs at 2000rpm. I think thats a little high so Im interested what your's revs at. My ute has a K&N filter, pacemakers, 3 inch exhaust & other little things. It also has 16 inch HSV wheels. Any help would be greatly appreciated.![]()
Is that in a manual? My v6 manual revs at 2000rpm at 100Kph as well.
kilowatts are like drugs, the more you get, the more you want.
My VN 5lt wagon revs at 1900 at 100kph, and it's a standard auto.![]()
yeah mines an auto, Is there a way I can lower this?? perhaps a diff from another Commodore as mine has ample exelleration. I just want lower crusing rpm
You'll want to get a lower ratio diff (or is it higher? I always get them confusedOriginally Posted by nsladden
). I mean for example going from a 4:1 to 3.8:1 (a change in this direction is what I'm suggesting).
You will notice that your car will accelerate slower but it won't matter too much if you're only interested in dropping the revs while cruising.
I'm not worryed about acelleration as its quick enough already (note the mods) & I think it may also have a shift kit. Could I just drop in a diff from another model?
The first thing that has to be done is to find out what gear ratio is in the car at the moment. All commodores from vn-vs run 3.08 ratio and generally they sit on about 1750rpm @ 100kmh (auto). I have 3.45 ratio out of a vl in my vn v8 auto and it sits on 2000rpm @ 100kmh so my guess is your car has not got the standard ratio in it or the torque convertor is not locking up in the transmission when cruising. So like i said you need to see what ratio is in it now and go from there.
CSL to bring the cruising revs down a taller ratio is needed, remember the lower the number the taller the ratio, the higher the number the lower the ratio.
my brother has a 5-speed VN and at 100k's in fifth he is sitting at about 1200-1300rpm so i dunno.
If my ute does not have the standard diff in it how can I find out what ratio it has?
my ls1 sits @ 2 thou rpm @ 110 kmph. sounds HOT too![]()
Myns a V6 auto but it sits @ 1600-1700rpm @ 100kp/h.
The Ford Territory i hired to Sydney sat on 2200rpm @ 100kp/h.

i got a 5 speed with skyline gear ratio in it and on 100 it sits at 2500, and 110 it sits on like 3 grand. but i guess with fuel keep on rising its almost worth changing the ratio down, but i'd be happy with it only sitting on 2 grand though
