there seems to be 2 different types of ppl when it comes to insurance ppl who tell their insurance everything thats been modified and pay thru the nose and ppl who dont like me i was just wondering if i got pacemakers and exhaust and didnt tell the insurance ppl and had a crash would they not cover me cause of just the exhaust being modified? ive had cars with pod filters and 18 inch mags and didnt tell the company jack cause if i got in an accident id quickly switch the mags for stockies and take off the pod but im not sure when it comes to this kinda thing id hate to crash and have them say "naa mate u didnt tell us it had this and that and this and blaa blaa"![]()
what experiences have you all had with insurance companies
well i got pacies 2.5 inch str8 threw exhaust cai and kn panel filter im insured for a stocko v6 only mod is the 15 inch alloys and i got cleaned up the other day and its all going threw now no fuss so im not sure when the insurance companys will be dicks about it maybe if you smash into someone and youve got lotsa mods done they might have a cry but if youve got a cam how are they to know anyway
I think if you don't tell them about the mods, then the mods aren't covered, that's how it's worded in my policy anyway, so if you stack you wont get a pay out + price of your mags, you'll just get the value of the car
U will not be covered if modifications are not declared to the insurance underwriter, as the underwriter is who holds the cash.
If a stack is not your fault and u did not contribute to the accident by defective equipment or improper use of a motor vehicle(failing to obey road rules), then you should be ok. It's rare that the at fault drivers insurer checks the complainents vehicle.
Or, you could try some of these places that give a agreed value policy, but it depends on the age of the vehicle, your age, and what has been done to the vehicle. Basically if the mods are the type that over increases the vehicles naturally aspirated performance eg; turbo, s/charger then forget about insurance, no one will touch ya. Rims, xzorst, bodykit should be ok provided you tell the insurer, and keep reciepts and photos.
ok, yeah insurance sucks... i told my insurance company about my sound system (well $800 so they dont crack the shits) and that i replaced all the springs/shockers/ added a ajustable panhard rod and ajustable cambers
and a new front grille, they didnt mind about the grille so long as u tell them.
mods that i havnt told them about is pod filter, but like mike said in the event of a crash i can swap that over quick sticks,
and anyway i recently went through the crap process of having a accident, excess is a wh0re, $850 =( could be worse, i could be on RACV =P
anyway the ONLY way they can find out your mods is if a police officer / traffic accident member is called and they inspect the car, or if the car is inspected by the insurance company which is RARE, like say you crash into a construction site knocking a pillar and creating like 20mil damage... then they would be a ass to you and check everything, but the fact is they dont have time to check every vehicle that puts a claim in so they stick to the expensive ones to save money...
Ummm if the police are called...what are you going to do then about your mods...legally you can't touch your car if it's been smashed to the extent that it has to be towed away, sure you could swap them over if your car is drivable(at home),but you want to hope the copper didn't lift your hood to look at compliance plates, etc, etcOriginally Posted by PaRaDoX616
Given the type of car, eg, a hot lookin commy or whatever the coppers are now instructed to check compliance plates, if they can get to them safely.Originally Posted by samuels

Well most general duty coppers don't know shit about cars anyway.. They just care about cleaning the scene up, not checking the specs of your car..
In most cases you will be able to change things over.. Things like a pod filter, rims.. You could manage..
Changing springs, extractors might be a bit harder though..
I was in a crash last year. I had aftermarket lights I didn't tell insurance about..
The lights were damaged and insurance replaced them for me with brand new Holden ones..
The aftermarket lights cost me $275 a set..
Holden ones cost $590 a set..
Lucky me..
lol!,
yeah general coppers dont, its the highway patrol that do know shit about cars.. they're also the ones who will check the compliance plates
