hi guys i have just baught a holden vp series 2 i am 15 i am trying to do it all up for when i turn 18 except i am having a problem it is on gas but it dose not seem to like to run on it when u try to start it it will take a few turn overs for it to start and when u plant the foot it will back fire through the carby and blow the air filter box it dose this on gas and on petroll plz f****ing help...
you more than likely have a leaking intake manifold, get some water, with dishwashing liquid or something, and put it around the intake manifold, watch for it either blowing bubbles or sucking air

carby on a vp?
throttle body maybe?Originally Posted by shiatan
id get a mechanic to look at it, just to make sure its nothing major
a lot of people running gas will drill a few large holes in the large black air intake pipe, then tape some neoprene over the holes (ex-stubby holder), this way, any backfires coming through teh system will expand the neoprene slightly (and subsequently itll return to shape after), and save your airbox .

i got duel fuel on my VP, blew my airbox clean off one day when it backfired, but it only occasionally happens, to stop the airbox blowing off i bought myself a pod, dont know how to stop the car actually backfiring though

If your on the goldcoast i have what i beleive is the best gas mechanics on the coast. Between them, over 40yrs experience in gas and they used to look after my HQ gts and it never missed a beat. They are called Tech Tune in nerang behind chip talk in lawrence drive. Tell them fabz sent you bob and ray will look after you.

Spark plugs and ignition leads. It is imperative with gas to keep your ignition system up to scratch otherwise it will backfire. Gas takes a lot more to burn than petrol and needs a really well maintained ignition system to burn it.
Had the same problem with my vp. I put 9mm leads & ngk plugs (bpr6ef-13 they use these on the s/c commodore) for the last 12 months and Iv'e had no back fire or damaged air filter/box. Also had the mixer looked at and had a hose replaced due to it starting to perish, hope this helps
"Ah ha! Got the drop on you with my disintegrating pistol. And brother, when it disintegrates, it disintegrates.
Heh, well, whatta ya know, it disintegrated."

An Lpg mechanic should be able to fix your starting problem but a question to you: does the car run on petrol? If not your fuel pump is likely stuffed and what fuel is in the tank is most probably stale. I'd check that first.
If there are no probs. with running on petrol an LPG mechanic needs to take over from here. Normally on an EFI engine with LPG fitted when you first start the car it starts on petrol then switches to gas and there could be a problem with the timer that does this.
cheers i started it up the other day it turned over alright but i had my foot to the floor and it was staying at about 1700 rpm and when your driving along it will jump up to around 6000 revs then drop back down so ithought an ecu chip mite cure theese problems
ye i took it to an lpg mechanic about for months ago all the f***thing caust me was two hundred twenty buks didnt even fix it
has the back fire killed your pod filterOriginally Posted by xlr8_87

You'll have a tough time finding info on picking locks on these forums - but that would suck!! dont you have a spare key?Originally Posted by dougs
I had the same problem with my vr duel fuel, every time it backfired I blew the air box to pices, I have replaced the standard box with a mushroom type at least that didn't explode when the car backfired, I eventually had a new coil pack fitted and it hasn't backfired since, and that was about two years ago, hope this helps, with your boot lock, dose your boot opener by the drivers seat work?
Captain
Your VP should have a boot release button in the glove box.Originally Posted by dougs
drill it, then replace the lock, you can't pick it. don't you have an internal button in your glovebox?
