    Default Rims- Your opinion wanted!

I have a VY Clubsport bodykit going on my VN and at the moment i have 16's on my car.

With the kit, im going to want bigger rims as the kit will be sort of bulky. So what are you're opinions? What size rims are best suited to VN/VP's? I was thinking 18's but 19's are also on my mind.

Also is chrome out? My m8's tell me chrome is out and i should go for steel finish or shadow finish. But it's hard to go past the look of chrome, my car is white by the way. What would you choose out of these 2? The shadow finish or the chrome finish and in 18's or 19's?

    Hi Mate,

I have VY clubby kit on mine too, used to have 17" VX SS alloys on it, now i have Koya 19" machine polished rims with 235/35 tyres sittin on lowered shocks and superlow front springs and ultralow rears.

Pretty good, slightly rubs with a passenger on hard turns but hardly. little bit of custom lip/guard work. Heres some piccies.

Chrome looks allright with white, i guess alotta ppl cut out the chrome look cuz it doesnt suit the more bogan style thing of drivin a commodore.. up to you at the end of the day. in my opinion, chrome like those would suit ok , but chrome "full faced" sorta mags can be a bit much on a commy.

Yeah i am thinking steel. If i get steel finish its almost like having 2 sets of rims, one steel finish and then shadow finish when the wheels are covered with brake dust cause they havent been washed lol

You mean the chrome strips in the door moulds? Thats what i have on my car at the moment but im thinking of ripping it all off when i get the kit, depending on whether it looks out of place or not. I had a red VP parked next to me this morning with the door trim and that had a VX kit...didnt look out of place. So i dunno...had BSV on the sideskirts...Brisbane Special Vehicles perhaps?

i have a VP with similar kit low front and superlow rears.
I brought the 18s which are very similar to these.

First size - i was very happy with the 18's when i put them on about twelve months ago. i have had the guards rolled so want to look at maybe bigger but you wouldn't want to go any smaller than the 18's not much difference in 18's-19's so if you were going bigger than 18's go straight to 20's

i hav a maroon VP with the chrome around windows and chrome strips so i went chrome for my wheels and loook pretty good

i really like the shadow chrome or even the black but each to their own.
it is entirely your personal choice.

If you are anything like me then you will probably want to change in 12-18 months anyway. here is mine anyway

Very nice car man. I would love 20's but $$$$ and my car is probably too low at the front. Its got lovells springs up front and they are lower than superlows.

Where can i get that chrome strip for the windows???

i would go 18'ns without the kit but 19'ns with the kit

'defect' is a word i would think about too, 19'ns could cause some problems

Yeah thats the other thing...Because i reckon i could get away with 18's and a 16 inch tyre placard...because 16 inch rims stock is reasonably believable...but when ya go to 19's its stretching it that bit further....

i think chromies are best left to japanese and four cylindars.
but on older commodores most standard ss or cluby wheels look great.

i have vx ss on mine...looks awsome

The SS wheels are too common for me. I have 2 mates with VY SS wheels already. One on a VP, the other on a VL and i have a mate with VX SS wheels on his VS.

18's would be the go, my brother had 19's on his dumped vn, he had people in the back seats and the tyres would rub, and smoke lol... 18's should be enough for that kit... should look good, send me pics, ive got my kit going onas soon as my insurance runs out (can get it insured)

Thanks for everyones help. I've decided on the steel finish, 18's. I'll be posting my old rims for sale in the for sale section soon, so if any1 is interested in a good set of 16's, keep an eye out!

I recently got a set of rims on my VP, i went for 17" Speedy Mercurys, car isnt lowered yet, but will be in the coming weeks. These have a gunmetal finish, with a machined lip, and i rekcon they look a treat against the white paint of the car. Just another option instead of chrome/shadw or steel.
