Hi just wondering about Dr Bobs chips. Ive been qouted $250 changeover basis for about 125kw to 140kw thats 15kw increase.I dont know much about this side of performance and was wondering is the bang for buck worth it.Ive heard good reports about dr bobs chips so any more comments would be appreciated thanks
definetly worth it in my opinion, when you think about other mods like extractors which will get you maybe 10kW for $600, it seems worth it
bang for buck though you cant go passed forced induction
when i've done a couple more mods on my car, i'll be getting a doctor bob chip or similar

Honestly you would be lucky to gain 5-10kw on a 100% stock v6 but since yours has a few breathing mods and your car is so slowOriginally Posted by S Pack
then yes you might even gain more than 15kw (so long as somthing else isn't stopping your car going right). But also remember you can easily buy all the stuff you need to make your own chip for alot less than 250, you can do that for less than $100 so it's up to you weather you want to play with it or just have it done.
I just want to say again that the V8 is a whole other story and anyone that is running the stock chip in a Holden V8 is just silly because that motor is under tuned to the maximum and you would only just beat a good V6 to 100, I mean only just with the stock chip, you don't have to be very smart to figure out that if the stock 165kw chip runs 6.86, the 185kw chip runs 6.65 then a full on chip that runs 5.95 must be making some serious power or at least a ton of extra low down torque, almost a full second quicker for less than $100 worth of tools, that's got the be the bargin of all time you'll never do that with any other mod
i think ill get one...i dont trust myself in making my own but thanks greenfoam as others reading this thread have an idea of DIY cost.(i failed one of those dick smith electrics classes where you make a circuit so ill leave it to the pros on this one)
yeah bobs chips are good man...i wouldnt be overly critical on Kw improvement figures (as each car is different so its nothing more than a guide) but it will definately give you good bang for your buck....and you'll really notice the improvements.
hmm 15kw from a plug in, lol funny here here with greenfoam
Cheers

P.S- Greenfoam nice avatar.

My honest opinion, I'll never beleive a plugin until i see legit results. All plugins i've used, I've had massive power gains but 30ltrs 100k on one of greenfoams chips "my flame chip" but the power was from 0-80 then it died in the ass. If i found a good even chip with awesome torque and not bad fuel economy with dyno results, that'll have me won.

awesome performance and still maintains a good economy, about 10L/100Km around town (i say town, but its really the outskirts of brissy).
cant complain about that, especially when bob's alot cheaper than other chips people buy (eg. powerchip)
I tried 3 different chips, i got on a range of .4-4rwkw the difference on dyno, I did 8 dyno runs.

I'm unsure on how much power my V6 is making but it is making alot more torque than the standard car, more power maybe but not much. My V8 might might be lucky to pull 130 rwkw on a dyno but it's making massive better than stock torque it's a genuine fast car.
Also its worth remembering that I live below sea level and in very cold air so my cars can allways run more fuel and faster times than most peoples, BUT they woudn't be so fast up on a mountain in Queensland
Stock VP + CAI, paper filter, and tune, G-grid soft compound tires and if you have a listen on the video below you can hear that traction in 1st gear just does not exsist

Hozy, the power "curve" on that dyno sheet you sent me looked like a graph of the perol prices lately. Honestly if you are satisfied with that sort of thing more power to ya.
Rob
Never send u a dyno sheet mate.... Havent even been able to find my gas run dyno sheet

hay guys got my chip form dr bob couple weeks ago (ps dr bob ill be sending my old one back asap) how much kw increase it was im not sure who the hell knows what a kw feels like. midrange torqe was deffently the most improved the gears hold out longer two so better changes. take off power didnt change overly that much put 1st gear seems to stretch to about 5000 rpm when u have yur foot down where as b4 it changed at like 4000. fuel economy was pretty good two but as dr bob saids if u want more power prepared to use more fuel. but yeah dosent use that much more in my opinion and im constinly foot to the floor. i recomend getting all the work done to your car first then getting a chip so it all acounter 4. i want to upgrade my throttle body and get extractors but not sure if the chip will work as good. also if u read this BOB if i use premium will i get more power.
overall dr bob chips do improve ya power and torque get one
Guys just use the HSV 3800 chip, it's all that 95% of the aftermarket chips are anyway and on a stock V6 it will give you .15 of a second 0-60 mph and that's more that half the increase you'll get with any other chip. The V6 is great for lasting a long time being strong and using not much fuel but in the end it's no performance motor and doesn't have alot to spare. If you want to go fast without a turbo/sc then buy a 5 liter or a gen III![]()
