Default Advise on my T5 gearbox

G'day guys, I just recently got a fully reco'd T5 gearbox for VN-VN V6. I was interested to see if you guys would recommend me replacing anything else and what oil I should use, the guy at the shop I got it from said I use transmission oil or transmission with a mix of gearbox oil if I was going to give it a bit. I was a bit confused by this so I thought I'd see what everyone else thought. Also one other thing I will be changing will be the clutch as well, I wanted to replace it with a heavy duty clutch, could I please get any recommendations on which brand and model is a good one for my type of gearbox?

    Cheers, mickah

Holden specify Shell Oil, can't rememebr what type.

NEVER put any type of transmission oil in there, its too thin. as with don't put gearbox oil in a transmission, as its too thick for the bands.

if you mean tail shaft, then no. the LWB cars have a longer tail shaft, so if converting a Statesman or wagon to manual, you'll need the tail shaft from a manual wagon.

What about clutches, what's a good heavy duty one? I couldn't imagine there would be that many for the T5, so there should be a preferred one that everyone agrees on.

get a heavy duty pressure plate. i have one.. it is good i reckon. in one of my other cars i have a heavy duty pressure plate and a ceramic clutch plate. it is unreal. nice and smooth..i think i will put one in my commodore if i ever need a new one. they are also very grippy too.. don't slip.

clutches are just as wide ranged as any other car part.

I use an Extreme clutch, never had a problem, except the fact its too strong and my gearbox is the weakest part of the driveline.
Don't make that mistake, its cheaper to replace a blown clutch for around $300 every time instead of $2000 every time for a new box!

T5's require Dexron Type III. Auto oil with a additive for the bearings. Most reputable places will tell you to run auto oil and thats it.

I run Fully synthetic castrol in mine since I rebuilt it and haven't had any dramas yet. I wouldn't mind trying an additive to see if I can shut that damn input shaft up while the aircon is on.

Holden State in the manual never to use Auto oil in the gearbox, so there word is good enough for me.
If you run auto oil, eventually it'll get too hot and burn everything out

wtf who said to use auto oil in a manual box, the auto oil would not handle the heat or the pressure.

shell X75/90 Gear oil, 2.05 Litres

or any similar weight hypoid gear oil

The getrags use gear oil I believe, but the T5's use auto oil.
