do you know what sort of diff it is? borg warner? salisbury? so you got the backing plate off, the axles are out, and you say you have taken the four bolts off the hold the bearing caps, well now you need to remove the caps, and then i cant remember how to get it out. someone else will know, but why may i ask are you removing the centre? if you are going to rebuild it or overhaul it you will need some gauges, to set everything up properly so you dont get a wining sound

    lol

im guessing its a 9 bolt since your title says vp

the reason i started with lol is because you have done everything you need to do to get it out.

if you grap a large metal pipe ir a crowbar then just lever the center out against the diff housing and with a little force it will slide out and your shims will come out with it so be carefull to note the side and direction they were in... (make sure its clean and dont scratch any metal as filings wont go down to well in the diff .. you may like to completely clean the diff to solve this)

you would normally use a housing opener to open the diff a few thou to allow you to pull it out with your hands. you dont need this ive done it before with no problems and i just tap the centre and shims back in with a rubber mallet or a block of wood and a hammer
im not admiring your car im looking in disgust

    yupyup ^ spot on

a metal pipe, with the inside of the pipe around one of the diff center bolts, then pry it out by levering it against the housing

it just needs a little negotiation with some force (but careful not to bend break or scratch anything)....

there's nothing else holding it in, it's just squeezed in there.

yepo i got it out.. was simple as, as soon as someone told me its only sitting in there now. Getting it back in was a problem. Took about 5 goes and somme real effort. Whoops anout the marking/scrathing stuff. There are some BIG hammer marks in there now. OHhhh well doesnt matter. I have anoyher diff sitting here if i need it. I took it out cause i wanted to lock it for a burnout comp on saturday.
