    Default Upgrading.....

    Hi. Just joined.

I have a 1990 VN Wagon - I am putting a VX supercharged engine into it.

This will leave me the original engine. Do they have any value?

Yeah you can buy them at my local wreckers for about 300, but he sends most of the to scrap metal now, since they are worth a fair bit in metal

Holy Crap! That thing's going to fly. Any estimate as to what 1/4 mile time it's going to run?

Heh... 1360KG wagon with 172KW S/C engine... very nice! Good luck with the whole traction thing :P

VS2 Calais L67 is listed as doing 8.1s 0-100... but having seen some times posted around here on NA6's I think that is a bit out... and thats a 1500kg car.

Get someone to make a custom chip for it, and see just how many extra kW you can squeeze out of it. Should be able to get it to spit out about 200kw without too much extra work!

Also, a few bags of cement in the back, either that or a few lead bricks, just to make sure that you can actually get the power to the ground. What transmission you going to run it though, nice little manual box, or a fully manualised auto?

I'm new to this - I believe it is a stock engine, and an auto trans. I'll need to check.

I don't know how well the stock (VN) auto will handle that much power going through it. May need to strengthen it, either way you should be looking at a shift kit, probably stage 2.

And I pray that you've got some really nice wide rubber on the back, because it's going to be SO easy to light them up that it's not going to be funny, higher power to weight ratio than the SS (I think). LSD out the rear could be handy too if you don't have one already.

It's a long engine. What sort of wheels would you suggest?

Lol it'll be a little slow mate.... Better off putting a 9psi CRS Supercharger kit on your vn motor, Ecotec's are slow, and the chargers arnt any better...

    Cheers

I have a few reasons for the upgrade besides peformance. The VN motor has about 300,000 km.

I'm sure there are ways of increasing performance.

I dont think the ecotec's are slow, its more the fact that the newer commodores that run them are heavier than the vn.
