well, i dont know if you all know, but my vn has a story to be told, so im going to tell it to ya. it will be long winded
after a few months of being of the road i finaly decided i should do what i was going to do to my vn 5 months ago, and that is a complete rebuilt.
ive sat back for many a day looking at it, figuring out what i was going to do
and it came to me, so i decided to do it. been shopping around, looking for best price for everything, and the best deal i could come up with.
basicaly today, i went out and bought a few things, and ordered some more things
today's list is
front rotors, back rotors, front wheel bearings, rear wheel bearings, front brake pads, rear brake pads, front calipers, rear calipers, front ball joints, lower control arms, sway bar bushes, adjustable panhard rod, radiator coolant, radiator, auto cooler, lower radiator hose, 6 plugs, washable k&n air fliter (pannel), and 6 spark plugs (bosh super 4),link pin kit, new radiator, 4 new tyres, new tail light's and wiring loom.
and i have got more to get 2morrow
front mapherson struts, rear shockys, rear springs, knock sensor, 6 injectors, ecu, cd player, and crank angle sensor.
and next week is exhaust time.
expect to see a write up of how to do everything, only thing i wont be doing is the zorst, (im buggered if i know how to bent mettal pipes.
today's shoping spree cost me $1.200, (that included the deposit for stuff ordered in which is 2morrows gear)
what brought me to finaly do this, i catn handle driving my girlfriends barina anymore, i want my commodore back
Beep beep, Barina!
Nah it sounds good that you're getting it fixed after so long man, I know I've let cars sit that long before lol.. I wish you all the luck in the world, hope it all goes smoothly and you get her back on the road soon!
Mate, you should post pictures of before, during and after the rebuild. Would make a hell of a story.
Glad to know that it's going to be given a new life, instead of just left sitting.

thats dope, it's amazing how these things get so commonly overlooked when doing up a car, after 16 years time will ake it's toll
I wish i had $1200 to go out and buy stuff for my car, alas, i dont, but good luck with it, should be great when its back.
I'm now trying to get $1200 together to do my suspension, after hearing about this 'project' I've decided that I'm going to turn my VN into a bit of a project car rather than sell it and buy something else.

Check out the group buy for suspension in my sig... unless your going awesome components ps. i'm a bit drunk, but this looks coherent...Originally Posted by mouce
Thanks for the heads up on that one, but I'm going to get the full whiteline lowered suspension kit. It's got everything and anything that you could possibly want to replace, put that together with a whole lot of nolathane bushes and that should keep me happy![]()

well, it started today, day 1 of the fix up of the vn.
ive gotten pic's somewhere, buggered if i know how to get them from my cammera to the pc, girlfriend will do that for me
today was a nice and simple day, basicaly cleaned the engie bay today, see what i was looking at, and write up a list of hoses, clamps sensors and other stuff that looked a bit sus.
1 injector had a small sign of fuel squirting out from the bottom "O" ring, so i replaced all 6 injectors, knock sensor was replaced, and fuel pressure regulator had corosion all over it, so it was replaced. both top and bottom radiator hoses were replaced, fuel lines in engine bay were replaced, the gasket for the oil filter was replaced (where oil filter attatches to the engine, that mettal part that the oil pressure sender unit sits on), both rocker cover gaskets were replaced, and exhaust flange was replaced.
did a radiator flush, went to aussie auto, and got some radiator flush stuff, now before i put it in the radiator, i removed the temp sender unit, and attatched a analogue thermomiter to the engine, so i could get a actual degree reading. ran the car for 15 minutes with the stuff inside the cooling system and took note of the temp. removed the bottom hose at the radiator, and drained all the goo out of the radiator, talk about some brown stuff comming out. did a little modification to the old garden hose, and put it on the hose it'self so it would put water into the motor and drain straight out of the other end. did that for a few minutes and re-connected the hose. filled it back up with coolant and water, and ran it again for 15 minutes, did the bleeding of the heads thing yada yada yada, and noted the temp. there was a 15 degree difference in the temps. it now runs smoother and cooler.
also picked up the suspension components today i ordered, that is getting done a little bit later. 2morrow's task will be the rotors, wheel bearings and brakes, mabey
cheers
garth
p.s. a cooling system flush will save you money and time keeps engine cool and keeps corosion out
well, update time on the vn saga
well, i replaced front rotors
back rotors
front wheel bearings
all calipers both front and rear
all brake pads
new hand brake thingy in rear disc
front mapherson sturts
tye rod ends
ball joints
panhard rod bushes
all was good, car steered straight. was wonderfull. then for some reason there was absolutely no drive in the car, put it in gear, and would not go forward, or backwards, sat there reving it's ring right off, with one hell of a rattle crunch wine from the rear. shit i said to my self. jacked car up, just to make sure i didnt remove something i shouldnt have, or put someing in upside down, or backwards, all checked out. and then i saw it, every blokes nightmare. diff oil was all up under the back part of the car, all over the concrete, and all up the diff housing. droped the diff cover, and there it was, my entire center had fallen out, hence no drive, hence all the complaining. so i hunted, and i looked, and i pulled all my hair out, and finaly found myself a new diff. and put it in. all was good.
tonight, i moved it, from my place, over to a mates house for a mobile mechanice to come out and give the road worthy thing, and the bloody horn didnt work, so we took of the steering wheel cover thingy, undid the nut, and my mate being the brutle fella he is took to it with a hammer and center punch, it was not going to let the wheel go. finaly let the wheel go, took it off, repaired the issue, (little bush at top of wheel was not sitting on the rear slip ring) put wheel back on, tested horn, all was good, started the car, and there it was, argh. while taking the steering wheel of, my mate had bent the living snot out of the steering colum,
as a result, no road worthy for me 2morrow, which is anoying, road worthy was for lunchtime, but it was going to tyre shop 2morrow morning to have 5 tyres fitted.
ill keep you all updated as soon as i know whats happening
far out mate you are having some real crap luck atm
lol are u a plumber? cos ure good at digging, this is from 2 yrs ago
