    Default VN Turbo V6

Hello, I am currently wanting to turbo my V6 VN Commodore but do not have any idea where to start.
Does anyone know a turbo which would fit the VN which is obtainable in Australia? The reason Im after turbo'ing it is because of the success Fords V6 Turbo's have had.
Has anyone here turbo'd the Commodore?
Or does anyone know what needs to be fitted, bought etc to run a Turbo system. Thanks

Also, just a random question, is there a way to tune your exhausts or muffler etc to make a V6 sound even almost like a V8. Thanks

tonnes of people on the street commododres forum have done it so ask there as well.

although, for 4k that turbo kit from http://www.snortperformance.com sounds like the best idea, although it seems a little dodgey cause its fairly well priced.

if you think 4k for a turbo setup is to much then you should stop this project right now.

If you are trying to do this on a budget it might be worth contacting Zoom magazine. It covers all types of turbo cars and I am fairly sure it was this magazine that did a lengthy story on fitting twin second hand turbos to a OHC Falcon six a couple of years ago. There is a good chance they have published a few articles on the VN over the years and you might be able to buy back issues or a copy of the stories.

yeah a turbo on a buick v6 will cost you alot more than a super charger

although if done properly ive heard about some crazy gains that can be achieved

    hrm some intresting fact,
ok, someone please slap me if im wrong,

all you really need for a lowish psi setting is

    1x turbo charger
    1x turbo piping
    1x returned ecu
    possibly a blow off valve

is it possible to throw low psi Garret T3 on the 3.8L v6
say running at 6psi the vn head should beable to cope with it and same with the cooling system, so no intercooler is required....

the T3's retail for around $500-600 for a cheap price... if im correct shouldnt a low end turbo setup only cost around $1000 without installation???
like i said before someone please slap some sence into me if im wrong...

I was talking to mate (who wants to butt **** jap cars and hates holdens and fords etc and any non jap car) about the snortperormance.com stage 4 turbo for my VN and he reckons that the car wouldnt last a week with it and is "a waste of 4 grand". Is his statement any accurate? How long would the car last. And how many pounds do you think the engine could take on a daily basis. THanks

its actually alot easier to turbo a car then supercharge it. to do it properlly it costs around the same.. turboing being prob a bit more in the dosh dosh.. but SHOULD yield alot more in the right foot region. Im looking for manifolds at the momet. Im thinking of a t3 setup or a twin setup of something along those lines. Just not sure on turbos for a twin setup. I dont know ALOT about turbos or turboing cars but im learning..

This is what from my understanding i need to aquire

    Manifolds
    Turbo or 2
    intercooler
    dump pipe
    waste gate
    BOV
    boost gauge
    piping etc
    some time to install

Is it a home job. Like could I buy the pipes and one weekend drop a turbo in. Or is it something you save for a while and give all the cash to a mechanic to do it?

    sounds easy enough to install,

    yeah a T3 is a good setup,
im intrested in running 6psi boost,
    no intercooler

    so just a
    turbo
    manifold(with wastegate)
    blow off valve
    tuned memcal
    new oil lines
    vacume lines

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T3-T4...QQcmdZViewItem
thats the kind of turbo id be putting in... not too expensive either... =D

basically i have come to the conclusion of tt setup using rb20 turbos. For turbos and manifolds ive come to the conclusion of around 1.8k.. that is capable of running anywhere upto 20psi. all up ive worked out i need to budjet 4k for the turbo kits and around the same for some internals.

woah, you've got it planned out mate :P, i just want something that goes PSSST---WOOOSHHH.. and runs 6psi

come to think of it my cousins selling his old turbo off his r33 skyline, it seems doable to get 6psi for under $1000

nar i would say not.. i just got a set of manifolds priced for about a grand depanding on what i want exactly.. im going to buy another engine in the next few weeks to start it on. Im going to buy everything over a few months cause i cant afford to do it all at once. Basically it will be manifolds first, then turbos, then intercooler, then piping, then the other few little things i need BOV.. etc.. Then ill start work on the engine thats in my car now for the rebuild.. or i might rebuild the other engine that im going to buy. Depands on what sorta kms its got on it etc..

ha ha the misses said she will brake up with me if i turbo my wags.. something to do with ill kill myself.. lol narr that wont happen.. lol. Still looking for stuff but. SO if there is anyone out there that knows who else will make manifolds for a non eco-tec please post here cause i wanna get the best deal i can.

    Thanks Michael

When VN's first got released they made 500 cars with turbo's and they recalled every car back and the customers all got the money back. I forgot what was the actual reason probably catching the engine on fire lol
