G'day guys and gurls.
I would like like to appologise in advance if this has already been covered. i havn't been able to find any info on this problem.
The car is an series 1 VN Calias V6 auto ps ac.
Its my brothers car and he has recently taken it to a local workshop to have the drive belt tensioner replaced (old one was FUBAR).
All was good for about a week. Then it spat the drive belt off probably the first time the vehical was reved up to 4000 rpm in 1st. From this point onwards it has spat the belt off whenever there is a small amount of wheelspin or the car is reved near 4000rpm in first before changing to second.
The car was driven easily for several weeks, then the belt decided to come off again this time without wheelspin and probably only reved to 2800 in first.
This time i decided to buy a new belt to see if it would help at all....
it stayed on for about 25kms of easy driving ....
After putting it back on i started the car with the bonnet open to make sure everything was alright..... the belt came straight off
same thing happened with attempt no. 2 (this time taking extra care to make sure the belt was routed properly... also checked the pumps A/C PS etc. to make sure that none of them had seized)
Attempt no. 3..... the belt stayed on to start with with the transmision in park. closed the bonnet and went to take off, and the belt came off within 20 meters......

I'm stumped.... any ideas would be greatly appreciated
When you had the bonnet open could you tell which pulley the belt was jumping off?
Gravity is proof that nature keeps getting us down.
thanks mouce![]()
I had not thought of that.![]()

will get my brother to start it tommorrow while i watch the belt, if it does not come off straight away it will if he gives it a quick rev
thanks again, i can't beleive i did not think of watching the belt in action to see where the problem is.
sounds like one of the pulleys are out of alignment or not sitting square..... most likely the tensioner if you say it was just changed..... you should take it back to the mechanic and explain it to him... he should guarantee his work....
sounds like tensiner pully has had a shit, prob spat a bearing or 2 and works fine for a few minutes, get some speed up it gets the speed wabbles, and spits the belt. either that, or the belt is actually buggered. either way it' s something you would like to fix asap, that belt comming off might hit something and cause some more serious dammage, what may turn out to be a buggered tensiner pully could turn out to be the pully, battery, and fuse rail.
cheers

well i found the culprit. it looks like the pulley for the A/C pump is on a slight angle.
the problem is that i cant see alot down near the A/C pump....... is it possible to tilt the pump slightly down at the front (at the moment i cant even see how the pump is mounted to the block)![]()
Also check your water pump. With the belt off it should spin freelly.
yeah, i have checked all the pumps they all seem to be spinning freely
just not sure how to get the A/C pulley to line up
