Hi guys
You may have read about my recent accident. Well i wrote off the VN S-Pac, and bought myself a very nice VP Calais.
Now the question is whether I can convert the Calais from auto to manual, using the parts of my S-Pac. The mechanic said there might be a slight problem in the positioning of the gearbox (6 hole flywheel vs. 8 hole flywheel - dont ask me, im just in customer service!)
Can anyone advise on this? I am prepared to pay a little bit to get it done. I know its worth it on a VP Calais.
Thanks guys
should be a simple bolt up.. as long as the vn wasnt a series one cause then you might have some probs.. but still should be done even if you just have to upgrade the box you still have everything else you need for the conversion.
ok ........ this is a very popular subject. plz trust me i have been through this.lol
it took me a lot of time on the net and on the phone to find all of this out.
i know exactly what is required to do the conversion.on a v6 anyways!
as far as the crank and flywheels go this is how it is!
vn commodore v6 series one - manual had a 6 (six) bolt patern
auto had a 6 bolt patern but different configuration
vn series 2 v6 - all series two engines had the eight bolt patern didn't matter if it was auto or manual.
therefore.....if you have a series one engine the only way you could change it from auto to manual is to get a blank flywheel made ,or i think you can get an adaptor to fit the six bolt series one flywheel to the series one auto crank.
it's confusing this is why it comes up on the forums so often.
if the vn s pac is a series one. you will need to get a series two eight bolt flywheel.and thats it.
BUT......there's a but....getting a series two eight bolt flywheel it Bloooooody hard to find. so....your best bet it getting one made but crs castlemaine rod shop in vic. you will need to send them your series one flywheel so they can use the ring gear.
if you need to know anything else send me an email......

A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE RESEARCHED THIS INCLUDING ME, I PUT A S1 VN IN MY VP, SO HERE!!
for all thoes who want to know how to do a manual convert to their auto VN - VR heres how.
firstly you will need the gearbox, tail shaft, crossmember, clutch, clutch cable (recomend new), flywheel, spigott bush, pedal assembly, plastics and the wiring from the box to just infront of the gear shifter.
1: Pull out the Auto box, Torque converter and auto shifter. will require dropping the steering rack to get converter off. Also will require removing the exhaust
2: fit spiggot bush DONT FORGET TO OIL !
3: fit fly wheel to engine including the clutch (if using box out of a S1 VN and putting it in a S2 or later you will need the 8 bolt flywheel to fit.) 40Nm and lots of thread locker!!
4: Fit wiring through body plugs in just under the audio unit in frount of the shifter(ALL WIRING FOR THIS CONVERT INCLUDING THE COMPUTER IS THE SAME EXCEPT FOR THE LITTLE BIT THAT ATTACHES TO THE BOX ITS SELF. YOU DO NOT NEED TO CHANGE THE COMPUTER!!!!)
5: fit the plate to the trans tunnel and rubber boots round the shifter.
6: Fit box to engine and connect wiring dont forget to lube through out bearing (clutch release bearing) slide!!!
7: Fit tailshaft
8: Fit pedal assembly including the clutch cable there is a grommet in the firewall this will require droping the steering collum
9: fit plastics to centre console
10: ensure every thing is tight and oils is in gearbox!!!
11: test drive to ensure everthing is ok
12: have a drink to congratulate yourself and be aware of da
We highly recomend buying an entire damaged car ( rolled, pranged etc) from the auctions or wreckers to do this convert!!
we bought the one we used(VN S1 S pack ) for $1100 in good driveable condition.
please sticky this to top to make it easy to fing as it seems like everyone is looking for it everytime im on here
any questions feel free to pm me
Hi there everyone, i got a quote from the wreckers for a 5speed conversion, $750 is the price, Im happy to pay that and they said it will be a good gear box and if not they'll replace it, so im happy with that.
