yes the remote cable runs from the head unit to the amp/s. it is needed to turn the amps on when the unit turns on. is the head unit a new unit and do you have the wiring diagrams?

u can do a dodgy just to turn the amp on for a sec is to get a short wire from power and put it onto rem terminal just to test if amp works, not to sure if its bad for it ut i have done it a coupla times and havent had any probs, hope i helped

if you dont want to pull your dash apart to get the signal, and you are 100% sure you are getting power throuhg the main power cable, then run a new remote,
What i mean is, underneith the sterering wheel, on the fuse box, fuse 13 is the radio fuse, hook a wire up to that (after the fuse), and run the wire into a switch (best place to mount the switch is on that drop down panel), now on the other side of the switch run a wire to the amp along the usual route (under kick panels etc.)
Now what weve just done is create a nice police kill switch and also made a switch for the amp. so if you want it on always it will just turn on with the accesorise, but if you just want nice soft sound hit it, or if your crankin the subby and you see your friendly neighbourhood police man you can turn the sub off with the flick of a switch.
    hope that helps
