hey guys, as most no i blew my reverse, i now have a new vr manual in that looks brand new for 600, it runs alot better but i still have a vibration, see with the old one and now this one wen i accelerate up and over 3.25tho rpm and seems to vibrate, now its not a knock knock sort of thing its harder i accelerate the hard and closer together the vibration is.
but wen i put my clutch in to change gears it stops. but as soon as the next gears hits around that rpm level iyt does it again. so i think that crosses out warped flywheel or anything in that area, it cant be tranny and my ening was fine with the auto. so i think i may have my drive shaft around the wrong way??? but would it vibrate like that?
it has a brand new clucth system and flywheel was fine in the old car. the only thing i wasnt 100% sure on was the postion of the drive shaft were it joins the diff
Is it located properly? Is it tight? Also, turn it 180 'n try it. If its still there, whats your centre bearing like?
**** my car vibrates like a dildo when i give it to it, i thought it was the norm with these cars
greenfoam and i have been chating and have been crossing things out that it may be and isnt, so we were thinking is it possible that the clutch is warped? like maybe it came in the box already warpe as its brand new.. is that at all possible??? and wat should i do to check it, i mean i really dont wana pull it out again right now
Did you get the clutch & flywheel balanced before putting it all in? Most of the time a new clutch will go in without a viberation hassle but you can get the odd one that will need balancing with the flywheel. Try indexing the clutch pressure plate around on the flywheel, sometimes this can rectify a balance issue. If this is a new gearbox it really cancels out the gear box, as for the tailshaft they generally only viberate under hard acceleration on take off. I tend to think it sounds like a clutch & flywheel balance issue. If you are going on the cruise on Saturday night i would gladly go for a run round the block with you and try and diagnose it for you as i am a mechanic.
Hey guys...Off the beaten topic for as bit....I have a VN 5 spd manual calais, and it used to vibrate heaps too..Kinda like what is experiencing..And only under hard acceleration..I got the problem diagnosed when I went for a wheel balance, and it turned out to be the rear trailing arms...got them chanegd and its fine as now...Maybe have a look at them and see how bad the rubbers arm...Just my 2 cents![]()
Yes i have heard of that making a viberation, but he said it had no viberation before converting to manual, could not hurt to check them anyway. Cruzey is yours a factory manual calais?
yeah mate.....Factory Manual....Not a bad car....mechanical nearly A1 at the moment..Am about to put a new power steering rack in, and then its Mech A1..Once thats in, will respray the car...
you have a missaligend spiggot barring remove
gearbox a reinsert correctly you only need to remove by 3" and reinsert

Is the balancing different between the auto & manual like the Ecotec?
yes the flywheel has a tdc so to speakOriginally Posted by vt1538

hmmm well it was never balanced, the clutch and flywheel that is, so i thinking it is that, but with the trailing arm mounts were should i look and wat should i chek for, any pics of the rubbers i gotta look at.
so i guess im going to have to take it all out again but this time im getting some one to do it as i dont wana go through it all again, and im gonna have to wait till im working again, say my clutch and flywheel are out of balance would it hurt it if i keep driving for just a few more weeks.
also yes ill be at the cruise so we can test spin it then, thanks.
edit... as for burnz comment wat do u mean i have a missalined spigot bearing?? isnt that the sping that is in the crank? and how can it be misalined?
there is one more thing ive noticed aswell, in reverse it feels really odd, like ill be reversing and it sorta ticks, but a little harder almost a clunk, i odnt no if its got anything to do with my vibration.
ill have to show u that too on the cruise vn calais 5.0, see wat u think it is.........
the spiggot bearing is a brass sleave whitch the input shaft of the gearbox
lines up with,if not aligned cluch shudder is apperent

ok so i went to see manual tranny guys, they said to also check my engine mounts as one may have broken, hope thats it acctually
ok may have found it now, looking under my car again and noticed my pacemakers were touching the bellhousing, so i made abit of a gap, i think its better, well it does feel better but still there, think i need to take more of my bell housing
Those engine mounts can really make your car seem like its rough.
If you change them do both and start by lifting the engine up take off the left one and undo and replace the right one and then fit the left one last..the job will go a lot easier.
This is my vr that I rebuilt ....CLICK HERE to see my vr on Cardomain

hey my pacemakers did that they rubbed on the bellhousing and the crossmember so check there as well just get out the ol grinder works a charm
maybe u wrecked the intrenals of ur drivetrain when u were doin stupid shit in reverse that caused it to blow... dunno just an idea...
ok i guess ill have to go the angle grinder cause its not fixed 100% yet, ill have to check the cross member too, means i gotta take the extractors off, thats gay
and silver_bullet im sure if i blew my driveline it would vibrate all the time and not just round 3 - 4 tho, well it does it all the time but worse then, and im sure wen i hit bumps it wouldnt stop and start vibrating
no need to take the extractors off vn-88 all i did was jack my car up on stands got under her and just looked for rubbing the grided too about 3-4 mm off the crossmember and a bit of rubbing on the bellhousing i think i even rubbed one bank of the extractors a little too
i no exactly were there heading, and i made about a 2mm gap on the bell housing, but it aint enough, its better but still does itt, so ill have to take more off
well im un able to get to the spot on my bell housing cause of my extractors and cause i was still drunk from the night b4 found it to hard to get my pacey's off, so next weekend i guess
so its only vibrating up past 3000rpm and only when its in gear, did you put the cluthc in yourself? and did you tighten it evenley? so it was an auto before? so you put a new flywheel as well? is everything tight?Originally Posted by VN-88
cheers, nick
when you put the clutch /box in did you replace the 2 little rubber bushes in the clutch fork that hold the release bearing in place??
also in my vn I used to own it had a similar type thing happen. Found it to be the clutch fork vibrating on the bell housing itself (the little "window" the fork comes out of then connects to the cable. being a mechanic was able to put on hoist at work at grind the opening a bit wider with a die grinder. was all good after that.
