    Default Really Bad Intake

Yesterday after me and me mate had a quick look over of my engine (1991 V6) my mate noticed that my CAI wasnt sucking in any air, even when we took it off and just the bottom half of the CAI was on there was little to no air movement, and when you cut off the air supply with your head the engine doesnt seem to care and keeps goin. All the books ive read say that i have a vacuum leak or maybe bad compression, any thoughts at all?

you cut off the air supply with your head? lol.

Check the air hose the MAF sits on... see if there's any leaks and if it's drawing air through those.

Yes the map sensor has to be connected for the engine to run, thats what it means. Personally i dont think the map sensor will be your problem. Mattman was talking about a MAF (mass air flow) sensor which a VN does not have!

Heh... well i don't know the VN sorry :P

I'm just talkin about the big fat pipe that runs from the air box to the TB... disconnect the airbox altogether and see how it goes then... otherwise start checking it for any splits.. you'll probably hear a hissing noise..

If it's something other than that I have NFI.

Sorry if i sounded rude mattman but i wasnt having a go at you, or it wasnt meant to sound that way. I would be checking the air intake hose for leaks too, make sure all the hose clamps on the air intake are tight. That may cause this problem!

Lol that's cool... never read it that way. All I've had is the ecotec (soon to be an L67 ) so that's all I know.

Maybe one of the gaskets around the t/b or inlet manifold have died. Though you can normally hear a fair hissing/sucking noise when they are shot.

Don't forget though, there is a hole in the bottom of the air filter box, so even if you blocked of your CAI (with your head, LOL, that's just fuc*ing GOLD!!!) there is a chance that it's drawing air through the hole in the bottom of the air box.
