    Default vents under airbox

Does anyone know the Queensland laws about cutting a hole under the air box? I wanted to cut a hole and vent the air from the front of the car into an custom alloy air box i'm making at work.

if your talking about cutting a piece of the body out you'd need to get an engineers certificate for it...that being said i dont think they would give you one unless you re-inforced the body work around it etc.

Why not just fit a Holden CAI, over the radiator, and duct that into the air box. Not too hard to do at all, especially if you're making the box from scratch.

Because i want something different and i think the air would be cooler than coming from over the top of the radiator. how would i go about renforcing the body around it. what if i made it more like an upside down bonnet scoop.

I think you'd be better off finding other ways to be unique..

cutting up your body is a very quick way to get into trouble.

What about when people put on an intercooler on and they run the pipe through the area under the airbox. How do they get away with that?

If you're talking about using 4 inch pvc piping or something to suck in air from the front of the car, i would say dont. As i said in another thread, i did it to my VL because i couldnt buy a CAI for it. I also did a similar setup on my vn without actually cutting through the metal. But when u suck air in from under the car with a pipe like that, it tends to fill your air box with rubbish because it also sucks up dust and dirt and small bits of rubbish. Just get a VS S/C CAI.

As i said also in the other thread, i had both on my vn for a short while and i noticed no difference when i took the piping away and re-sealed the box. The only difference i did notice, was my air box wasnt constantly filled with dust.

Could you explain how over the radiator air is hotter than any other air? The speed it passes into the snorkel would have very minimal effect on the air temp.
