Here's a newb thinking aloud here ....I own a VP BT1 and would like to try the good ol' 15x7 chasers with 225s fitted. I have brought a fresh set off the govt car mob and they are on their way here to try. They said they will fit no worries. Freight is free for me so what the hell. The 16s are just such a hard ride and its so common -seems nowadays every car in the carpark has mags and super low profile tyres.
Will they actually fit without a technical hassle? The stud pattern is a no brainer but is there a difference on where the guts of the wheel (I mean the middle bowl shaped stamped disc section with the wheel stud holes drilled in it) is welded?
Were the VN-VP ones welded closer to the middle of the tyre? The wheel "track" would be larger on the VN-VP I suppose if the position was further into the middle of the tyre...
You won't have any issues there.
so you got some cheap smoke tyres? easy as...........
Hi, I'm a non-smoker. Given it up. Makes your clothes smell. Makes a lot of noise. Puts on points and puts up your premiums.
I saw them there and the tyres are way too good. May have down 10,000km. Don't what they came off. I assume someone wrote off a near new car. The spare has never been fitted, not a mark on the stud holes.
Most will tell you that the offset of a VP with IRS is different to every other model commodore, and you'll even get some wreckers selling cop rims 'only for VPs with IRS', but thats a load of bull. I've used many different cop rims of various model, and all of my mags fit the same across the 4 different cars i've had (VK, 2 VLs and a VP).

just got under and looked. Its definitely the standard rear end. Lots of sway bars.
I'll put 'em on soon as.
what did you pay for the rims and tyres etc ?
ok....I just put on the 15x7s and went to the servo to set up the air pressures. Much improved on the ride, its not as hard a ride as it was thats for sure.
The tyres I took off were 16in and side by side on the cement the chaser 225x15 steel wheels stand 1in taller, so thats half an inch extra on the radius from the previous PCW wheels. Maybe it won't scrape the speed bumps now.

If you've changed tyre size like that, how much is your speedo out now?
Gravity is proof that nature keeps getting us down.
Here are the after pix
...and I haven't checked the speedo yet.
each to their own I guess. Your car still looks hot, but I prefer mags (not necessarily the ones you had on there though).
Have a look here for speedo difference:

The only thing I'm not a fan of with those rims are the marks where some previous owner has had hubcaps on there. A good clean and a respray will solve that. Otherwise, I reckon it's come up okay.

Yeah, they need a rub with cut n polish at least. When I get time..
I tried the tyre calculator. It comes down to whether they are 225-60R-15 (incorrect speedo +4.6%) or 225-55R-15 (matches 205-65-14 speedo)... will check when it eases up raining.
''''''''''''''''''ends up being 225-60R-15 (incorrect speedo +4.6%)

I reckon the 15x7s look mint on your VP mate, havin the 225s definatley sets it off! Definatley looks tough, and suits it being a BT1. The VP looks in bloody good condition too!
Cheers, Gaz
Went to the drive-in tonight. Rode nicer. The wheels look big! Every other commy had chrome mags etc, mine was different.
Hello ? - where did you buy them off the government mob and how much did you pay etc ?

Just looked it up:

I just found Tufparts Melbourne is selling a set of 4 rims (15x7) with caps and nuts -all NEW parts. Unmarked. On feeBay.
No tyres included.

So far the bid is $87, which compared the price for caps and nuts alone, is a good buy to say the least. [This mob sells elsewhere on ebay a set of 4 centre caps and nuts for $70 on their own.]
Freight kills it a bit for anyone interstate though.
But if you're living in Melbourne/Geelong/areas and can pick up... wow.
Dude can you put the picture of the VP up again with the original mags because that was the only picture I've ever seen of a VP that still have the silver on the door/window trims
Thanks Carzee

Spoke to the dude at :

The 225's are Sumatomo - the guy seems to think they are great tyres.
Asked him about the difference between the 205/65/15 and the 225/60/15 he said only a few mm's in it - if you do the maths its 133.25mm verse 135mm.
Well, I wanted the 225s or at least 215s. 205/65 is just stock as they come -its a taxi tyre... maybe you meant to type 215.
That ebay auction in melbourne finished about 6pm last night. The 4 rims & centers sold for $167... Thats about 40 each for factory new --then you gotto freight them - if you don't live in Melb that is.
Doing the math, bankstown deal looks alright. A 225/60/15 costs about $150 on special at KMart I think.
