ok everyone, I almost have my wife convinced that I need new suspension in my poor old vn. I hopefully will be able to afford to go in the group buy. (oops looks like they sent me lowered ones by mistake).
But what else will I need to do whilst I'm replacing the suspension?
Remember this is a VN that wasn't ever serviced until I got it. The fuel filter was the original one until 4 months ago. It wasn't very well looked after....
What would you replace whilst its on the hoist for the suspension??
How many km's has it done? I would have a mechanic check it over, if it wasnt looked after very well, it could have alot of problems. But check the sticky about common VN problems. That will give you alot of hints to what tends to go in VN Commodores.
I'd do the whole suspension package... shocks/struts/springs/bushes.. likely it's all saggy and worn and steers like a bucket if it's never been changed.
How does the car run? Any problems? I still say take a look at the sticky on vn faults and go from there. & if you have money spare and are game enough, get a mechanic to look it over and list the problems.
The car runs great now. The engine didn't run well when I got it. A full service, New radator and power stearing pump a couple of sensors and she starts first go and drives really well. CAI and K&N filter are going in soon, but The suspension knocks and makes noises, bangs when you go over a bump.
For a car that cost me $800 it runs better than any car I've owned.
the knocking sound will most likely be the sway bar link pin bushes, the bang..most likely you poor old suspension hitting the bumb stops.
as already said, ontop of the shocks and springs/struts...you should replace all the bushes...nolathane bushes are pretty nice for a good handling ride, but if you dont wanna pay that little extra for them rubber ones will suffice.
probably looking at around $2-300 just for the nolathane bushes themselves, then labour ontop of that.
