Default hard to shift - right t5 oil??

hey guys, got my new vr t5, for my vn, but ive noticed with this one and my old one wen my car is cold and the tranny is cold, its hard to shift down wen slowing down and crunches alittle wen changing up, mostly aorund 1 - 2 - 3.

i suspect the oil im using is maybe alitttle think and cant warm up fast enough, the sincros should be fine. it had a re build not so long ago, so wats the best oil for my beloved t5, money is not an issue.

also is it possible to have gauge to measure my tranny oil temp, so i no wen its warm and wen i can start to give it to here and back off alittle??

    all ford manuals run dextronII
most manuals are happy on auto oil.
    espeshally good for 1/4mile

    What Dezza said.

I've seen the after effects of running trans fluid in a gearbox, everything melts, and the oil is too thin to lubricate the cogs properly. You can all post saying its bullshit, but if you don't want to be hunting around for 'another' T5, then i suggest you drain it completely and put the shell stuff in.

That maybe so. but gearboxes aren't cheap, his best bet is to use what holden say!

have a look at any dextron III bottle, it says for use in Automatic transmissions, and power steering, nothing about gearboxes

Like i said, go for it if you want to, but if you do, please don't post a 'my gearbox is blown' thread in a few weeks.

burnz - who gives a crap what ford use in their gearboxes - it's a T5 for a commodore. you don't use dex III in a T5 box. only the 6 speeds have dex III in them and even then they are a "fill for life" box (means not need to drain and refil). in the T5 you would put mobil XHP oil in it. Before you say anything - yes it's engine oil and it quite ok to run in a T5 - I used it in my T5 and never any drama's.

i believe burnz said dexron II (2), and also arent the T5's in ford as well? isnt it like a borgwarner box or something? so they are basically the same for ford and holden

ok, he can run what he wants, just thought i'd try and save a guy a few 1000 when his box melts.

the fords may have a T5, but there are differences, i don't see the issue, run in it what holden say, after all, they had the box made in the first place.

well ill just say ford box and holden box only difference is gear ratio, but they hav a different bellhousing and bolt up spot, but who cares, and this oil i have is the best ever, runs smooth and fast now. cause its thin it warms fast and doesnt get to hot. so ill stick with it, plus i change oil every 10 to 15 thousand k's in everything so this oil was best.
