Thats what i thought, i didnt think they had done a 4cyl commo for many series before the VN, something like VC?

Unlucky boys! Holden did make a 4cyl VN, hell as far as I know (its right here in front of me) they made them up to the VR.
It is a 2.6lt dual ram 4cyl. They make 110kw, so not much less then the V6. They were avaliable as an automatic only. Also ran a 3.73:1 diff ratio.
BUT, they were an export only spec engine, you wont find one in australia at all. Also as mention they were offeren in Berlina sedans only.

There is at least one in Oz. I saw it for sale on another forum a while back, it had been shipped over from NZ. The guy had owned it from new over there, and had it over here for five years then decided that because he got a company car he could part with his VN.

So I dare say that there are a few more 4cyl commodores running around than just that ONE that I've heard of.

As Airstrike said though, they were meant for export only. But it was a factory 4cyl option.

A lot of countries have massive tax penalties for engines larger than 2.5ltrs. And even steeper tax rates for engines with more than 4cylinders.

A perfect example is Singapore (their tax forumlae below), all prices in S$

    Road Tax structure
Annual road tax for cars where EC is the engine capacity in cc

    600cc and below = $400
    601cc to 1000cc = $400 + 0.25*(EC-600)
    1001cc to 1600cc = $500 + 0.75*(EC-1000)
    1601cc to 3000cc = $950+1.5*(EC-1600)
    3000cc and above = $3050 + 2.0*(EC-3000)

For anyone who had trouble following that I'll do a few examples.

A 3800cc engine would cost S$4650 in tax each year. (A$3872)
A 5000cc engine would cost S$9000 in tax each year. (A$7495)
A 2400cc engine would cost S$2150 in tax each year. (A$1790)

That's why you make a small engine for export.

The VH came out with the starfire motor didn't it?! A mate of mine used to have one, he was so ashamed that it was a 4 banger, he put 14"s on it and a louder exhaust so no-onw would know!

They say fuel price by xmas will be around $2 per litre.
A Barina is starting to sound good for a work car. They are a zippy lil rice burner. Great on fuel too.

Pushing a V8 to the servo just aint kool dude.

Yer my mum is looking at downsizing from VS Exec wagon to perhaps a barina or vectra (i shudder at the thought of that V word).
Selling my VS acclaim as well so that leaves me with my VL and my motorbike.
If i play nice the bike gives me about 18km's per litre. So i get around 200km's out of my little 10ltr (plus 2 ltr reserve) tank.

    I LOVE IT!

^^^I'd rather have a vectra in the driveway than a barina. Well...not the new models, the 2000 model vectra was alright.

Gotta love bikes for fuel use though, 200km costs me $8 on the bike. By riding that two or three days a week I can afford to keep my commodore.

The VH was original. Compliance plate stated so.
