hey guys, at the moment i have a V6 executive, wich runs really well and i am wanting to buy a run round car, and the recent fuel prices have me looking at the 2L Vn berlina, i am just wondering what they are like, i know they wouldnt be like the V6 but im wondering if they are still a desent vehicle to buy? i just cant bring myself to buy a sht japanese car![]()
there is no such thing as a 2 l vn berlina
yeah the last 4cyl engine in a commie i think was the vc i dont think they used it in the vh so unless someone out there has transplanted a 2lt into a vn and only god knows y youd do that
Unlucky boys! Holden did make a 4cyl VN, hell as far as I know (its right here in front of me) they made them up to the VR.
It is a 2.6lt dual ram 4cyl. They make 110kw, so not much less then the V6. They were avaliable as an automatic only. Also ran a 3.73:1 diff ratio.
BUT, they were an export only spec engine, you wont find one in australia at all. Also as mention they were offeren in Berlina sedans only.

Selling FG G6E Turbo and buying a N/A Supra
There is at least one in Oz. I saw it for sale on another forum a while back, it had been shipped over from NZ. The guy had owned it from new over there, and had it over here for five years then decided that because he got a company car he could part with his VN.
So I dare say that there are a few more 4cyl commodores running around than just that ONE that I've heard of.
As Airstrike said though, they were meant for export only. But it was a factory 4cyl option.

why would anyone but a jap want 4cyl when you can have 6...or 8!!!!
jokes..ahahaha i get jokes
A lot of countries have massive tax penalties for engines larger than 2.5ltrs. And even steeper tax rates for engines with more than 4cylinders.
A perfect example is Singapore (their tax forumlae below), all prices in S$
Road Tax structure
Annual road tax for cars where EC is the engine capacity in cc
600cc and below = $400
601cc to 1000cc = $400 + 0.25*(EC-600)
1001cc to 1600cc = $500 + 0.75*(EC-1000)
1601cc to 3000cc = $950+1.5*(EC-1600)
3000cc and above = $3050 + 2.0*(EC-3000)
For anyone who had trouble following that I'll do a few examples.
A 3800cc engine would cost S$4650 in tax each year. (A$3872)
A 5000cc engine would cost S$9000 in tax each year. (A$7495)
A 2400cc engine would cost S$2150 in tax each year. (A$1790)
That's why you make a small engine for export.

who pays for ur fuel buddy? but i guess ur rite, nothing beats the power of more cylinders... gotta love em.Originally Posted by vpdood

They say fuel price by xmas will be around $2 per litre.
A Barina is starting to sound good for a work car. They are a zippy lil rice burner. Great on fuel too.
Pushing a V8 to the servo just aint kool dude.
Yer my mum is looking at downsizing from VS Exec wagon to perhaps a barina or vectra (i shudder at the thought of that V word).
Selling my VS acclaim as well so that leaves me with my VL and my motorbike.
If i play nice the bike gives me about 18km's per litre. So i get around 200km's out of my little 10ltr (plus 2 ltr reserve) tank.
I LOVE IT!
VZ Berlina
^^^I'd rather have a vectra in the driveway than a barina. Well...not the new models, the 2000 model vectra was alright.
Gotta love bikes for fuel use though, 200km costs me $8 on the bike. By riding that two or three days a week I can afford to keep my commodore.

i saw a 2L Vn at car city about a year ago. i think they were a NZ import. i thought they ran a 4.11:1 diff though?

well i dont think they have them in australia, as im in new zealand ive seen heaps of vn 2L around with heaps of Kms on aswell, ive also owned a VL 2L 4cyl, and my mate just bought an 84 VH 4CY 2L, all of these cars were assembled in New Zealand. as for the VN 2L they came out in manual and auto, were fuel injected had ABS, theres heaps of them for sale in www.TRADEME.co.nz,
as for any one that owns one can you tell me what they are like?
The VH was original. Compliance plate stated so.
