Default Excessive revs after changing thermostat

Changed the thermostat on my VN today and flushed the cooling system, had to remove the throtle body and elbow etc to get at it (series I engine) Anyway after putting everything back together the car now revs to about 3000 rpm before the auto changes to 2nd gear, very strange.

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

Series one, you haven't left a vacuum hose off somewhere, or maybe the wiring ontot the TPS sensor isn't on properly?

Maybe you need to adjust the kickdown cable. Said and done though 3000rpm isn't too bad.

lol... if all else fails reset ecu and try again. ide say vac leak. there is one that goes onto the tb that falls down the back of the engine on the passenger side.. i always leave him off and wonder why my car sounds like an 8 on start up

i reckon it's your kickdown cable as mentioned.
on the plate that sits on the TB, their are 2 cables, ones throttle, and ones kickdown (closest to you looking at the engine), you will notice a black clip with a silver half circle thing on it. push that in (little half circle) and move the little black peice that the cable runs through all the way into the main blak clip. get in your car and slowly depress the acceloator cable to the floor, you should hear 2 to 3 loud clicks. then done, yuor already to go

Thanks guys, as everyone suggested it was the kickdown cable. When I put it back onto the throttle body I didn't clip the cable back on fully so it was being extended slightly longer.

That'll do it. And it's annoyingly easy to have it happen too.

I will check my vac hose and sensors tomoz just in case but i put my finger in an got sludge out of the hole at back of TB.

The hole at the back of the t/b (there is a few though) is most likely your Idle Air Control Valve, I'd recommend cleaning this when you clean your t/b. If the IACV is completely clogged up it can't move around and readjust the air mixture to maintain idle. If it's letting too much air in then idle speed will be way too high.

Either that or the throttle cable is not hooked in properly.

its the bigger hole you see first once you remove intake pipe before the open/close butterfly(directly opposite the vac and other hole under vac)
