Another installment of my improvements on the new car. Next on the hitlist is the exhaust
I basically want improved performance/economy/sound
From what i've read in the searches, the best brands appear to be Lukey, and Redback. These seem to retail around the $350 mark, or am i mistaken?
I'm only after 2.5inch, or do you see an advantage (worth the cost) for a 3" on a V6?
And how much of a difference does it make that i have IRS?
And finally..(thank god you say) what am i looking for in installation? I know you could prob do it with some mates and some spare time, but im no mechanic and i want it done right.
Thanks guys
If you want economy, you'd be best settling for a cat back system, which is $250 here in adelaide. But add a chrome tip onto that price. That includes installation.
well i have a twin tip already, and that looks pretty fast (shame it does nothing) would i be able to continue using that?
and after a bit more research i read that the cat-back exhaust actually does little more than a nice sound. is that what you guys have found? In my old VN i always thought i had more torque down low than i thought normal, and i put that down to the exhaust. Maybe i was wrong?
this might sound stupid but do those cannon tips do n e thing for non turbo cars?? cuz i was thinkin bout gettin a 2.5" cat-back exhaust with 3 or 4" cannon tip. (not tryin 2 hi-jack ur thread...just wanted to no and wish to find out more about the exhausts n stuff without startin another thread...since im askin the same thing as u.)
Noooo dont put a cannon on a commodore. Just put a normal tip oval tip on or something, not a cannon muffler tip.
The cat-back systems do make a difference but not too much, but remember than the buick engines are very torquey as they are. And yeah you can just use the dual tip u have now.
hey 1991_Vn2nV where in adelaide can you get a cat back exhaust installed for $250...sounds like what ill be getting

A place on Bridge Road. VN-VY cat back exhausts for $250 plus tip. Its called Exhaust Motorsport. Go up Grand Junction road, heading away from port adelaide. You turn left at the next intersection past Gepps Cross intersection (where the pool and spa place is). Keep going down that road and you eventually see it on your left.
Im sure there are other places as well that would be about that price, perhaps profix etc., but i know the price at Exhaust Motorsport because they have a blackboard out the front advertising that price and 1 of my friends got one on her VS
anything in Sydney that people know of?
and thanks for the help so far, all good stuff![]()
yeah i got a 2.5" Lukey on mine...cost $350 and yeah sounds great, quicker on take off and it doesnt chew up a lot of fuel hey.
if ur in Perth W.A. go to Morley and on Walter Road theres a place called "Warrens Tyres & Brakes" he does exhausts, champion hey!!
VY works currently in PRODUCTION!!
Engine will still be sloow!!!!! ;-)
Or for the 250 mark in adelaide, Discount Aussie on port road, awesome work. They can guarantee sounds and ive never seen better workmanship, they just did my mates VY SS, and its the toughest sounding GenIII ive ever heard, they dont to a too shabby job on the buick sixes either, recommend them
do the lukeys and redbacks sound exactly the same???
anybody???
I havnt heard a lukey but i have a redback and mine come with the two mufflers. it was a little quiet for my liking so i took the rear muffler off and now it sounds sweet as. I have had people thinking that i put a V8 in my carAnd i have found an increase in power down low.
Australia. Love it or leave it
Shame your not in Melbourne slim.

coolvncommodore, you'd better watch out for the highway patrols ^^ Your car would be unroadworthy (1 resonator) and an EPA nightmate (over 90db) hehe... gotta love the EPA. >.<

what do most people have 1 or 2 mufflers(resonator)?

Honestly want the best exhaust system, Stay away from a 2.5" system... Sick of people going "2.5 mate, 2.5......" Stupidest shit ever. 2.5" for Tone & slight power increased, You want power, go 2 1/4" Mandrel bent, Hi-flow cat & no rear muffler. Best pressure/power setup. Wont sound as nice but it'll be hell nicer than a 2.5" system an not getting the power you should be.
Or dual 2 1/4" system.
Cheers

There with Tidd Brothers, But there name is actually Western Suburbs mufflers, Fred's the man they are all great blokes and it was fun watching them funny buggers they are.
The price was real good minus Cat $220 and Dump pipes $90, = $290.

My redback costed me $320. That included High flow straight through muffler, resinator and tip(tip was only a 2.5inch crome one so i changed it to a mad oval one) A little extra

Our systems seem about the same which is weird cause i can travel under 2000rpm and here the note very clear, It must be the hot dog?.
