    Default shift kits

once again making a commonly made thread....however ive read all other shift kit threads and they don't seem to directly answer the exact questions i have

a friend of mine says shift kits ruin your car...is this true? is this only if you thrash your gear changing or something?

does a stage one shift kit have much of a noticable difference from 1st to second (thats where i want the difference)

does anyone have any prices for shift kits installed in adelaide?

but yer what i really want to know is if shift kits damage your transmission/car?

    cheers for any help....ben k

***from all threads ive made so far ive continued on to do intall or alter whatever i was asking about

    so yer...im good. haha

From what I've heard there is less wear on the transmission because it basically slams into gear instead of meshing. No idea on how true that holds up, or if any other parts suffer extra wear.

There is no way it will damage your transmision more, different parts are replaced to make it more durable and to handle more power etc etc. I shift kit all the auto's i have, it give's better shift's and more durability.

I was talking to a trans bloke about the shift kits a month or so ago. From what he explained to me is that the kits increase the line pressure in the system. This in turn speeds up the shifts & reduces clutch wear. He also stated that the reaction ring in the 4l60 trans is quite weak & should be replaced with a heavy duty model.
There was a few other things that he recommended for a race trans like the servo & extra clutch packs.
I am sure that you can cause excessive wear in the rest of the drivetrain & suspension if you drive it hard.

you can buy the shift kit from autobarn for like $85? Its a B & M kit. i have the part number sumwhere, and its also around on one of the threads.

Also hozy the COMMODORE VN CORVETTE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PISTON KIT is that what you were talking about, you can buy that off ebay but is it the one that i want or is there a stronger/different one?

$85 kit is electronic only.. doubt it would even work on the older hydraulic trans? Anyway it's not a proper shift kit..

Electronic shift kits are bad news, everyone that i now that has had one has ended up rebuilding the trans, definatly dont recommend them

I'd recommend getting the corvette trans piston kit, that & a stage 2 shift kit will bring your gearbox along with a full service up to corvette specs.......
    Mine loves it
