front muffler (catalytic converter) is a pollution thing... it converts carbon monoxide (deadly gas) into carbon dioxide (slightly less deadly gas)...

Second one is just for noise.. you can take it out but it'll be loud...

I don't have a rear muffler, Noise barely changed, Power increase was noticeable.
Then again if i run the Flamer chip with my fuel mix i can throw flames hehe

The rear muffler can be removed. I think the rear one is usually a resonator.... However your car will be much louder. You may get better flow though. One muffler is legal.

One muffler is only illegal if the car goes above the limit for noise. I noticeable difference in sound will more come from a larger sized pipe eg 2.5 inch. i had a VN Calais with pacemakers and a 2.5 inch exhaust and it was too loud without the resonator (2nd muffler). Any exhaust shop will sell you a single muffler sports system, just as long as you dont have to go through rego with it

Well i have a 2.5 inch sports system and they put two mufflers in. i was just wondering what it would be like if i take one out. its not too loud at the moment so do you think it will be too loud if i take out the second one? i just dont wana drive past a cop car and get pulled over and get defected. but i also want to have a good sounding car lol.

Yes it will be illegally loud if you remove the rear muffler as i didnt have one and it was knocked back at rego, it wont be extremly loud to the point where you will get pulled over all the time (for example if you had a stright pipe...summernats style), but if you do it will get defected. The VS i have now only has one on it and is quiet as untill about 2500 - 3000 rpm and it was the same in the VN. Even still i have been followed on quite a few occasions and not been pulled over for it even though i drive a commodore with P plates.

Mate take your resonator off, makes a huge difference.. i got a redback catback exhaust installed and you could barely tell the difference from stock, i recently got the resonator cut off and replaced with a pipe and its heaps better now. My neighbour thinks i changed it to a v8 now LOL. Its probably over the legal DB, but when you see a cop, just dont accelerate and its silent.

Sometimes it also makes popping noises (sounds mad) when i let go of the accelerator and ive been told because there is less back pressure. Dont know if its a bad thing, but i can certainly notice it goes much harder without the ressie.

I have Extractors, to into single 2&1/2" Exhaust System, which consists of High-Flow Cat, with one Muffler before the Diff, which from the Muffler, turns into 3" Tailpipe, with a 4" Dump Tip, and its not really Louder/Deeper.
What would be my next step?
Its on a VQ Statesman 5.0.

If your in mine doing about 70 kms p/h in drive and just take your foot off the accelerator, it sounds like a massive sub going off in the boot for aobut 10 secs! I've been asked about 5 times now in the 7 months I've had it, if it's an 8.

I'm not sure which one it is but one of my mufflers has a straight through pipe, and the exhaust pipe stops at this diff. I've been pulled over before, but never been defected. Actually no cops have ever mentioned it to me.

VN Series 1 89 wagon that I'm wrecking, had 1 muffler and 1 cat. Didnt have rear muffler.

My VN Series 2 - 91 wagon has 2 mufflers and 1 cat. I noticed that and thought Oh series 2 change from 1.

I dunno why, didnt notice the difference tho.

lol @ illeagle... do you people even check the EPA restrictions???

it ISNT illeagle aslong as the db rating isnt over a certian level,

the only required section of a exhust is the cat converter (for polution purposes)
if the cops dont like it they can force u to take a EPA testing, if they dont find the car defective then you carry the results with you everywhere and the police cant do a thing (its not a ticket to rub in their face)
the only reason they have 2 "mufflers" (lol ones a resonator and one is a muffler) is to reduce the db level

EPA doesnt come into this at all, because that is the cat's job. The Exhaust will be above the legal DB level with only 1 muffler. In saying that though it wont be extremely loud, just lound enough in my opinion

The reason for the factory system to have 2 mufflers is due to the emissions testing during that time also the cars were designed for the older generation which do not like to driver a loud cars and have some restriction is the performance which increase reliabiltiy/fuel consumption (like all new cars).
    Thats my opinion.
