Don't you dare use water. I'll personally hunt you down and take your car keys off you. It would be a very bad thing to do.

I have heard that running a bit of diesel through there will do the trick though. Normally best way to do it is drop the oil out, put some diesel in and let it sit and idle for a bit (not long) then drop it out and throw a new filter and oil at it.

really no benefits in flushing it out.. just drain it for about 30minutes more than enough.

    forget water.

    Diesel will do the trick.
have 2 litre of oil left in engine plus 4 litre of diesel in the engine, the engine will be fine because there is plenty of light friction on the cam, bearings etc, do not rev it, you might hear dreadful noises from the lifters but its fine, you can leave it running on idle for 20 mins.

Once you have it running for 20 mins, leave it for 10 mins to "drip" down and cool down the oil & diesel because it will burn you when you drain it.

Once the oil is drained, put in cheap "Safeway or no name brand" oil in run it for 20 mins or drive around the block 1km then drain it again, remove filter and add fresh oil and filter in.

Other option is.... (which I did it before) is I used Top Engine Cleaner, whole bottle from Holden and poured it in the engine, drove it home for 120 kilometres and flashed it - lot of shit came out and the lifters quieten down after the flash (that was on 1991 Subaru 4WD wagon), added fresh oil & flashed it again and used good oil - Had a good reason because I had noisy lifters.

    Cheers
    AP

    * Warning, I do not take any responsibility above to whatsoever happened to your engine, its my experience that has been successful.

talking about degreaser... when i spray my engine bay with it, it tends to leave white spots everywhere, like oxidisation or whatever is called. whats the best way to get it off cos it makes the engine bay look sh**house and i have already tried hot soapy water... i havent sprayed my engine bay since with degreaser, i just use hot soapy water. and about mouce and his theory using diesel, i have heard alot of people use diesel to flush away oil but never heard the results... might have to do more research

Degreaser that leaves white marks? what kind and brand were ya using? Never happened to me from cars to cars, I just use high pressure wash with hot water (from hotwater tap) to wash down grease etc from engine with degreaser mix in a bottle. I bought the 5 litre degreaser from Bursons and it helps.

Most over the counter engine flushers are diesel with a couple of extra solvents added. And yeah...doing another oil change soon would be a good idea.

One problem you may have is that the diesel with dislodge all the crap in the system, and it may clog your oil pickup in the sump. If that happens you have to drop the sump out to clean it.

Thats Because it was a water based degreaser..normally gotta use 50% water 50% degreaser..depending on how strong it is, u may have to use more water.

Mineral Based degreaser is the best tho, never streaks the paint or alloy.

From experience I change the oil just after a short drive or making it sit for a short time 5-10 (be carefull very hot). From experience no matter how you change oil there would be no way in removing all contamination in the oil unless changing oil frequenly.
If the oil looks really looks really burnt and comes out clumps. I would change the oil and filter and drive for 200-500km then change the oil and filter again. This would remove any loose comtamination left before in the block.
If you change oil regularly then you would be wasting money on engine flush.

I wouldn't agree with that (If you change oil regularly then you would be wasting money on engine flush.). I'm not saying that you'd need to flush the engine every time, but doing it every now and then (say every 50,000-100,000km) would be what I'd be doing. There's always going to be junk that you don't get out unless you flush it.

I remeber buying one and it was just diesel, there was no other solvent in the can.

yeah, runnin deisel through your engine will get rid of the sludge. be carefull though. 15 mins of running will do. the oil light will be on but thats ok, just dont rev the engine at all.

One little problem you guys might notice after running thru the engine with diesel is that you might discover a tail of smoke.. don't worry too much it'll burn off.

Anyway, guys, I would like to hear how much diesel you put in your engines? 500ml? 1 litre? 2 litres or 4 litres?????

    Cheers

Usually it IS diesel. $1.40 for a litre of diesel, or $3 for a few ml's of relabelled diesel?

read whats in it. Cause like minux said thats the main part in there. But $3 is pretty good price, I've seen places sell the stuff for $30.
