Ok Im thinking for my next car that ill go a VN calais or a VP Calais International
has to be a V8 and if possible with a sunroof and duel fuel ( might have to convert it which is ok as it will be converted to a manual as well )
Dont want leather int I like velour but yea. Whats the ruff price of these at the moment ??
VP V8 Calais 5L... I'd be expecting to pay $5k+... and it'll be tough finding one with a sunroof.
Driving a CURSED WH V6.
and i am just about to finish converting the VP Calais to manual. There's a bit more involved than i once thought
make sure you have the correct flywheel, and i just found out today that the very impressive speed sensitive steering rack that the VP Calais came with is now gone, as it is a much bulkier unit and the clutch cable doesn't fit through.
also remember that the console will have to be custom made, as the Calais has the power windows, whereas most manual consoles you find at a wreckers won't.
other issues i had was the factory cruise control was set up only for auto, not manual, so make sure you turn off the cruise before putting on the clutch. you can buy a clutch switch, but to install that can be costly
but... the pay off is worth it. a manual VP Calais? in good nick they're one of a kind. apparently they only made about 50 of them, so a good one will be worth a bit
Vp Calais International . Good luck for 5 K. One in good nick could fetch as much as 10 K or more. Comes with leather interior and a few were manual. Not sure about sunroof though.
I wonder if your in melbourne, A charcoal 5ltr VP International just got sold for $2600 just down the road from me, I went to go take a look an by the time i got there the guy sold it on mebastard... It was duel fuel and dan like a dream, no work needed. He was goin overseas.....
That would of replaced my shitbox v6.....
Cheers

Well my son's mate just baught a vs v8 sunroof, lowered, nice exhust, etc etc $6500.00 it is a real nice car clean as.
regards Kirk
Captain
I have a vn calais 5.0L, very clean lowered with lots of stuff replaced inside like power windows, air con, new stereo, new windscreen, 10 months rego etc, i will be looking to sell it for 4500-5000 soon.....
I can't help but think you would be better off buying a VN or VP executive/berlina manual V8 since these are fairly easy to come by and then screwing some Calais seats in it. Then you have less stress and you don't have crapy electric bits that you don't need anyway
I love calais tho my First car ( that was road rego'd ) was a VN calais and i just love them. I own a VR berlina and a VR clubby at the moment so What im planning on doing is selling them both getting my calais and the rest goes off one of my loans ( I just cant not have a nice car )
Ok Ive just been doing more looking and I saw these 2 examples which mind boggels me
HOLDEN VN CALAIS V8 dual fuel, pwr wind, air, steer, alloys, EFR-551, $6580
or
Holden Calais VN, Sedan V8 full electrics, electric sunroof, alloys etc, electronic fuel injection, TCD-751 $5990
so its either get a sunroof and have to put it on gas or get a gas one and put a sunroof in it........
or get one with out either and then pay for some one to do them for me ( i can get some things cheaper for mates rates )

Under 3K for a international , fk sake that is very cheap in deed. They are a rare and nice lookin car internally and externallyy.
Theirs one on ebay at the moment for starting bid 7K .
a manager at work sold his VQ v8 statesman for 3grand! He reckons he had it at 5grand for ages and noone wanted it! if only he told me earlier.
No Calais Internationals were manual, so it'd have to be a conversion.
Mine is converted to manual, and the only 'leather' console i could find was a VS Senator one. It was grey so i just painted it black with interior paint, and no one can tell the difference. For the first 3 months or so tho, i just had the auto console with the middle removed, because as said there not easy to come by, guess i just looked in the paper at the right time, and scored it for a bargain at 200.
Also with the clutch thing, you don't have to run a clutch switch, you can still have the cruise hooked up, just to the brake, as clearly most people here can actually 'drive' and will know not to stomp on the clutch with the cruise activated.
Aftermarket sunroofs are better condition than the factory ones fitted, so fit that afterwards.
All Calais internationals have half leather, half velour, so you'll either have to deal with it, or change it later (after you realise only 299 other people have the same interior, you'll end up keeping it.)
just for info sake, heres a pic of my console now(with a custom tan gearboot)
Also a pic 'with' the cluthc pedal, just so we all know i did it first lol
In QLD there was a hail damaged Inter for about 4000, which apprently had a perfect driveline, just one smashed window, and roof ands bonnet screwed. thats the cheapest of those i've seen.
If you'd consider a different car, i almost bought a VP SS in manual for $5000, and before that i looked at a VN Berlina 5.0L 5 Speed, with electrics for $5000 also, so depending on what you'll take, theres cars out there.

The VP Calais International was a bit different, i only found a 4speed Automatic, 5.0L V8.
