hi have, VN series 1, V6.
having occasional rattling noises from the drive belt tensioner.
also, if you rev it, the tensioner sticks and jumps up and down. when engine off can push on drive belt to moove tensioner, and it creeks and sticks (no smooth moovement)
does this mean its stuffed ?
Is it difficult to replace tensioner ? seems need to remoove Power steering unit, alternator, and also heater pipes to be able to access it.
anyone know where the heater pipes terminate on the right, towards the manafold or block, and what type of connection there , bolt?, o-ring? other ?
any other tips or things to be weary of if need to replace the tensioner assemply?
thanks
I have the same issue but not as bad. When you accerlerate does the belt slip and if it does you need to change it. If it makes noises and the belt does not slip when idling then there is no real problem.
Just lubricate the spring tensioner with WD40.
A brand new one cost $230 from holden (I've got one) but not fitted as there is a bit of mucking around (remove p/s, alternator)
The rattling noise may just be from the bearings in the pulley itself. Maybe that's all it is, go to a wreckers and get one and throw it on, see how it goes. Hell of a lot easier than replacing the entire arm, all you need to do is undo the bolt holding the pulley on.
Gravity is proof that nature keeps getting us down.
my vp makes a rattling noise when idleing in gear(auto) but goes away when i stall it up a little and the tensioner jumps around and isnt smooth
do youse think this is the problem. the idle seems to drop and increase when the noise is present
i replaced mine (belt tenision and pulley 290 from holden) as it was doing the same, noise has gone, but it still moves (jumps) up and down, aparently its because of a misfire or sumin :S and ive had most of fuel system repalced along wif sensors, only thing left is my coil pack
