Not sure if your going to like this but ahhh well.

I had the same problem when i brought my VN, the knob wasent turning to the red, so i followed the heater rod, the rod goes along the right side next to ur left leg if your in the drivers seat. It connects to a white plastic clip which connects to a rod on the heater box.

Unclip the heater control rod and take off the white clip, now you are left with just the black knob, try and turn it clockwise (to your right), if it dosent work you have the same problem i do which is the heater flap is stuck closed.

At first i tried to turn it with a pair of multigrips but it was really really stuck and it mashed the plastic knob also.

So worse came to worse and i knew to fix it i had to remove the dash. So i removed it, looked down the center heater vent and saw the flap that was not opening, got a long screw driver and forced it unstuck.

All in all works bannga now .

    Summary:

Check that heater rod is opening the flap.
If no, remove rods and try to turn black knob manually.
If no movement, the flap is seized shut.
    Remove dash, force flap open.
Refit dash, test heater and put on some shorts

i have a prblem which, the two centre console air vents.
one of them consistently flows warm to hot air.
Even if switch on A/C, it does cool, but on one of them, flows warmer air consitently than the other

anyone know what could be causing this ?

unlike above issue, i can turn the heater control nob all way to red , so not sure if this is related problem or different problem

Have you checked behind, There is a long skinny bolt, That connects behind the panel into a white creamy coloured arm, that moves the temp from cold to warm to hot?. It's just that mine come out and it just fixed it but since it came out once it does it more often.
I might be able to grab a pic of it.
