Hi all, does any body know why some tail light looms light up the top and bottom light when applying the brakes, and some only light up the top?
Im not talking about stuffed looms either. Some have different wiring to others.
Had to fix both on my VQ and it took a bit of searching to find the right ones.
Thankyou.
i just went to holden and they gave me the right ones 30$ top and bottom light up
Glad this was asked as i was thinking this myself. My VP has only top while i have seen VN's have top and bottom. So it's as easy as that
They are much better in the Night to as if it wasn't for the window light it would be hard seeing 4 lights with only 2 going brighter.

there are 2 versions of taillight harness for the sedan.
VN- 4 brakelights
lateVN series 2 -VP 2 Brakelights
When I ordered mine they asked me what i wanted either 2 or 4 brakelights.
The harness would cost around 26-30 from holden
Thanks all,its always had me puzzled.
You say late VN series two to VP has 2 brake lights, so does that mean something is rooted, i only got two that light up, and its a series one
Lol The first time i noticed only the top 2 lights lit up when i brake, was when i was fitting new tail lights and i couldnt figure out if it was the top lights or the bottom lights that were meant to light up...confused the f*** out of me.
My VP has top only but i have seen a Series 2 VP the same.
To anyone that is after the 4 brake lights nick them from a Calais![]()

Hehe you musta swapped the globes around like I did when i changed those tail lights. Just swap the globes again so the top 2 light up.
With the harness the all 4 parking lights will light up only the brake lights would have either 2 or 4 depending on the harness you get.
If you have a early commodore with 2 brakelights light up either the a late harness had been fitted by the previous owner, the harness would have a wire cut to disable the other 2 brakelights or a poor grounding on the harness (either cleaning the globe holder or replace the harness).
I have seen when they released very late series 2 vn's and early vp's to have only 2 brake lights shown (Late 90's VQ caprice also). Some would have them either on the top or bottom depending the person who fitted the harness at holden (factory or dealer).
Its not the harness its the globes. It depends on where you put the globe. So some may light up the bottom because the globe is in the wrong spot.
