hey all, im sorry to bring up a shift kit thread again but i would like to get one but i have heard different storys bout different ones, i heard that the B & M ones arent the best, does any one no bout the transgo ones off ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/T700-R4-Shift...QQcmdZViewItem , or does anyone no off a god brand that they have in their car that they can rely on. cheers all

i also have a corvette tranmission piston kit

I personally would use the transgo kits, they are the most complete kit around. Next best bet would be the B&M kit.

A shift kit, is that classed as stage 2 or is there stage 1,2,3 kits, i no the stage 3 is full manual, or is it that stage 1 is a normal box, 2 is a sift kit and 3 is manual?? thanks all

yer good question i want to no this too! quick sum1.. by manual do u mean u hav to always shift 1,2,D,[D]?.. i always just thought the stages were the intensity that the kit effects the automatic shift. stage 3 being the most precice change in gears, and stage 1 just smoothely changing gears

yes by manual is, 1,2,D,[D] but also i want to no the difference between stage 1 (if there is a stage 1) and Stage 2

The differents between stage 1 and 2 is that stage one is shift improvement which would help for people who are towing (shift quick and frim)
Stage 2 is for street/drag use which shifts quick but very firm making the car kick (with LSD).
as in chirp 2ndOriginally Posted by SlowVac
, what would all you recommend for daily driver?? and are shift kits illegal??

without LSD wouldn't have an real issue. Just one tyre tends to wear out but there is no real different (friend with a VR S2 V6 has a stage 2 with a single spinner) I wanted an LSD to get even tyre wear.
I got told by my tranny specialist in the rain I shouldn't be driving due to the LSD and stage 2 shiftkit (tendency going sideways alot in the wet). But I don't accerlerate hard in the rain and around wet courners as the car would swing out without knowing (my mum released that very quickly).
I have a transgo shiftkit for 3years with the LSD and found it normal as a daily driver just adjust the kickdown cable until you are confortable with the shifts (not too hard or too soft). Friends have the same kit (even with single spinner) in there cars and drive it everyday.
so wats stage 3? .. yer my mate has a 2 in his with a mini spool.. he drop shifts from nuetral into first and its like butter than dropping a clutch he said haha not good for ya gears though im sure

Stage 3 is full manual meaning that the driver can choose any gear (when in drive the car would stay in third) the auto function has been disable and the driver has to shift the gears when required. But if you forget there is a tendency to burn the gearbox.
Dropping the gears (N->1) on an auto isn't a good idea as it would create shock in the box which parts failure can occur if the box has not been modifed to do that (re-enforcements).
ohh ok kool, thanks slowvac and everyone else that had an opinion, also one more slowvac is yours a stage 2 or do does the transgo only come in stage 2 and 3
THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT
Transgo has both options in there kit (Drilling extra galleries for full manual)
Mine is a full stage 2 with some re-enforcements to prevent gearbox failure (there wasn't a real need for the re-enforcements).
ohh ok sweet thanks heaps, i wonder how easy they are to install, but it also might pay to get a transmission specialist to install so if anything goes wrong, they might give a warranty on there work.

get it installed by a tranny specialist. I have droped my brothers valvebody on his car 4 times in one day to get the springs in the right order (it's not a VN) and was a costly exercise (buying 4x 4L dextron 3). It's a bugger when working on engine stands which I don't recommend (takes a whole day to do).
I rather pay someone and let them be concern with it.

Explains stage 1 & 2, as others have said Stage 3 is fully manual (Obviously with no clutch)
