Default Not Nice Noises From Under Bonnet

Started my car this morning and sounds normal but when i drive there is a loud tick tick tick. it is steady rhythm but gets louder the more i put my foot down. there is not loss of power but the exhaust is sounding a bit rough. when i rev in neutral after i remove my foot there is a psst sound. My mate reckons a gasket on my extractors is gone. the psst sound seems to come from the rear engine and the ticks seem to come from the injectors but it is hard to tell. The sound really pisses me off. I hope it is nothing too expensive. Im hell strapped for cash at the moment. And is it damaging to still drive my car the way it is as i dont want it to be more rooted than it is.

Crack in the header maybe or the pipe. I had a bit of a split in the pipe just after the y-piece and it sounded exactly like how you described it.

That said, noisy injectors are fairly common, maybe the tappets speaking up too.

Okay then...I'm going to guess that there is a hole in the exhaust somewhere.

took her in this morning to zorst shop and they said extractor gasket at rear. they said you can get a paper one or a metal one. metal lasts longer. i got extractors in dec last year from them and they said they only use metal ones.....wat would cauase it to break when its quite new.

They may not have used metal ones. In fact they may not have used new gaskets at all.

I have suffered at the hands of a few workshops (including one Holden Dealership) which have not done a job properly. It happens. There isn't a whole lot you can do about it unless you sit there and watch them work on the car.

That said, if they did use a new one, well...gaskets are like all good seals on cars...some of them will last for 20 years and never die, others will last a couple of weeks and blow apart. Sounds like you got one that was just a dud.

Your gasket could have blown because a bolt came loose, some cars are really bad for this and it pays to check the tension on your bolts when you service your car.

Make sure the bolts are all there and tight before you part with your money, just sounds slightly suss to me, cars tend to have a habit of breaking just after or during a visit to a mechanic

Excellent point, and because the bolts are hard to get to when leads and sparks are in, its best for you to do this when doing a spark plug service etc. I recently put headers on my car and like 1 month later I had a blown gasket, i checked the bolts at the flange and one was uber loose. Now its all fixed up, luckily it wasnt a head gasket just one on the flanges of the headers. Oh and I HATE the noisy injectors, myne really shit me off so if anybody has any new ones for sale please contact me or greenfoam, im sure greenfoam will pass on the message to me. GOOD LUCK.
