Hey all
Call me crazy, but i bought a 1990 VN s1 wagon for $200![]()
Ok, the car is fairly sound and has 200,000km on it and still runs ok
But the brakes seem fairly weak and have tried bleeding the brakes, overhauling the calipers but nothing seems to work![]()
No matter how hard you press the pedal i cannot lock up the brakes, and this is from 60Km/h, but it does pull up in reasonable distance.
Can any one else give me a suggestion to repair them as i would like to register this car???
Any help is appreciated
thanks in advanced
I/m not sure if any VN has good brakes, I had new rotors and pads in mine and they still didn't work all that well. I even took it to another brake shop and asked him whats up with the rubbery brakes and he told me VN's are just like that, even when they were new. You can use the bigger 290 mm rotors and calipers from the V8 and FE2 cars if you want to stop better
check the mastercylinder & vac booster !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my brakes are pretty crap, even with new-ish (standard) discs and pads!
I hvae FE2, and i still want my car to pull up faster, it will lock the front left with enough of a stab, even with 235 rubber on it. Im thinkin bout slotted rotors, hopefully that should make me happy
My car locks the brakes up very easily. The brake pedal is very spongey but if i hit the brakes with reasonable force if i need to stop real quick, it locks up the front brakes very quick, especially the front left. It really gives me the shits and i've just recently had the rotors machined and Bendix Advanced pads put on but it makes no difference
I have new slottered rotors and new pads and i still feel like im not going to stop. At least i know its not just me.
I didn't do it
Hmm, interesting fact to find out!!
I just remembered this afternoon, my mum used to have a VN calais and the brakes were scary on those as well!!!
Does any one know if the brake system from another year will fit and make any difference??
check the vac lines, sounds like they're not being assisted, its like trying to brake with the engine off.. it works just slowly...
