When I fitted my CAI and K&N I noticed improved economy (around 8%) and far better low end power.

hey all, i have a 1991 mazda astina, and just got a k&n pod+cai (so happy!), and i definently noticed better throttle response at about 3000rpm and above (obviously lower in ur 3.8 v6s), i think the economy mite be better, i got about 600km off my last tank! (55L) which is good (normally getting 500), but i heard the economy should be worse as there is more air being put in, so the afm and ecu decide to put more fuel in=more fuel consumption... i dunno, maybe because the engine is breathing better it is more economical...

    any thoughts?

Can't find a good article at the moment that goes into detail about the difference denser air makes but thats a basic explanation.

boss at work has a panel filter k&n one in her vx executive, its a 5.7L Gen3 stock, custom ordered by some farmer guy who she then bought it off. she says u can notice it heaps, so yer, but depends if you wanna spend the money, if its just an everyday runner, just get a valvoline one or what ever one repco or supercheap sell...but if its for performance its worth spending the dosh!

    cheers, Todd
