Hello,
This weekend I am going to put 6x9's in my back shelf. Though the back shelf hhasnt had any speakers in them before so they are uncut. Is there anything I should consider or know before I hack a hole in my back shelf.
Thanks
you should consider that its illegal......
Get some pods or build a shelf out of mdf....
hows it illegal to have speakers in ur back parcel shelf?

ok it is illegal to cut any part of the metal (it apparently weakens the structure) so make some boxes to lift the 6x9 up a bit so u dont have to cut the metal.Originally Posted by saint_matrix
but you can cut the timber mdf or whatever that stuff is

HAHAHA
Contact a place locally that does engineering certificates And do it that way.. It's cheap as to get a parcel shelf engineered.

i was told it was illegal due to weakening structure where the baby restraint clip goes. I had mine already cut when i got the car and the sound place wasnt goin to install for me caus it had been cut. I told em i dont have a kid and by the time i have one i wouldnt use this car
Dude, just make a new shelf out of MDF. Looks far better. Have a look in the link in my sig, there might be a how to in there.
I got pioneer 10" 3ways in my parcel shelf, ITS NOT HARD TO INSTALL 6X9'S WHEN YOU HAVE 10"

saint matrix, i think you'll find you wont fit much where the stockies went, its better to get 6" splits and put the tweeter where the 4" was, pending on the ones u get you dont have to cut the metal, but i mean wow soo many things are illeagle, how can they all be inforced?? as for getting a shop to put your audio in? do it your self its much cheaper and you get the satisfaction of knowing its DIY =P
here mate get ya self a set of vinyl pods for vn -vs they look good and save u from cutting metal out ur parcel shelf which is a defect. About $120 buks that get drilled sraight into the shelf over existing 6" hole
I have attached my pic for what i have done to my vn ss.![]()

I just pulled out the wooden shelf over bit. and on the bit that is high(the sides ussaly) cut out the speaker shape and put the shelf back in and the 6x9s should just sit on it without having to cut out any metal. My 6x9s fit in mine perfect.
lol @ $120 for pods...
get some MDF, some bog and some chickenwire...
and mould your own pods... then spray or cover them
then you can do your own crazy designs.. cmon people DIY is funner =P
i duno about ur 6x9's but my speaker magnets sit a good inch to inch and half deeper than the metalOriginally Posted by coolvncommodore

Well on the raised part mine just fit in by only a few mil. so i put some sponge in between the magnet and the metal to stop and vibrations. maybe some 6x9s have bigger magnets or something. not to sure
i like the vinyl pods. ive got them myself. i like how it tilts the speaker towards you and they look great
