hello there i am trying to find out if a auto vn can easily be changed over to a manual
hey im planning 2 put a 5 speed in a vn in a few weeks it should be fairly straight forward like on previous models (eg vh vk) but iv been told you have to change your computer to 1 out of a vn manual, does anyone know if you do have to change the computer any comments would be much appreciated
vks chris
you'll need a different length tailshaft and a different flywheel. the need for a new computer is a myth as far as i am aware for a VN, you will need to get it reprogrammed however.
how much did you guys get a T5 for? and what conndition? my laygear bearing have gone up the shit, as with reverse and the syncro rings.
cheers

dont knock riceburners, they are fast and reliable...
rare and endanged 94 VR auto white sedan
i am only thinking about it i haven't bought any parts yet but i heard the end of the crank is longer on a manual
i bought my 5 speed and a sports clutch kit (clutch is a bit worn) from the wreckers it came out of a written off vn S pac was that a good price for the box?
vks chris
you will have 2 work out weather your crank has 6 bolts or eight because there are 2 completly different motors and they will not change over unless you change your crank and you need 2 change computer and parts of wirin harness as electronic shifted.
Okay one thing fellas, I just found out that series 1 VN engines do not allow this conversion (manual - auto), only from series 2 engines up can you do the mod, hope this helps. Would hate to see you waste all your time and money for nothing.![]()
If its an early VN dont bother. You will need either an adapter flywheel or Dellow used to do an adapter to fit the 6 bolt manual flywheel onto auto crank flange. Auto or manual computer doesnt matter at all!!!! Don get sucked into paying big money for a "manual" ecu, its a crock. Wiring just has to be altered a little at gearbox, two wires need female spade terminals fitted for reverse light switch and inhibitor wires need bridging, apart from that its basic. If you want to do it , make sure you buy a complete conversion kit, dont buy dribs and drabs..........
Your talkin to me all wrong, it's the wrong tone. Do it again and I'll stab you in the face with a soldering iron.
If you have a series 1 you might find it easier to do what I did and get a manual engine+box combo. I got mine for less than the cost of the adapter plate and it makes for alot less work as its just an engine change. ECU does not matter at all, dont know why its such a common confusion. There is wiring diagrams for the small (easy) changes to the loom to suit the manual box.
And make sure you do new clutch while your doing it, wasting your time puttin a second hand one in there as its alot easier with it already apart
ummm, thread date guys...

ooops missed that one, cheers for the link though. that should be plastered all over the net so people dont have to read peoples "opinions" of what fits with what
I've got a whole setup good to go with a flywheel adapter
Silly how they did the VN series ones.
