    Default stange v6 issues help

My car is normally sweet as but latley its been doing strange things when cold.

first i noticed it reving at 1500rpm when cold probably for two minutes and would not settle back to 800 until I came to a comlete stop (its manual btw)

second it started stumbling on idling when cold and would almost stall on initial take off. this could usually be fixed by giving it some throttle then again it would settle and be fine

when warm it idles perfect sits on 800 and is smooth as but this just seems to be a cold issue

today i started and it starts being a bitch almost stalling between gear shifts i get to the lights and when i go to take off it stalls and wouldnt start for about 45 seconds (normally fires instantly) and when it did start it struggled to run even with a bit of acceleration... then it started running better i took off and it was fine

i did notice a puff of black smoke when it did finally start but it doesnt blow smoke normally. I also saw some white smoke from the front passenger side but that could have been from a car going round me.

its got me stuffed can anyone help??

Dont know if this helps but anyway...
Driving to work yesterday morning and my car wouldnt drop the revs when changning gears...it would stay at these revs, or just drop a few revs shy of 1400, even when sitting in neutral...
A quick check under the hood found one of the vaccum hoses and come off...put it back on and problem solved, revs nicely now

all that starting explains the black smoke, besides the engine code i would give it some good quality injector cleaner, but code 42 electronic spark timing so that would be you computer/coilpack

is code 42 still up because it could be coolant temp sensor??? or the idle control motor could be faulty...

    yep good advice.

backprobe the coolant temp sensor to check operation. if you don't know how to do that, just change it with a new one, they're pretty cheap but it's a bit of a pain, you need to drain coolant and it's right at the back of the engine area.

probably the best place to start is pulling the IACV out of the TBody and checking that it's not totally blocked with carbon deposits. clean it out and check that it moves (they don't move very freely but it should move a bit).

the high revs. sounds a bit like the coolant temp. sensor to me telling the ECU it's still running cold, but that's a guess...

ive gone back to a stock tune till i get this issue sorted unfortunatly i dont have a spare memcal to test but i have tried a new ecu, the problem is non existant after 3-5mins of driving

    ive replaced
    coil pack
    iac
    coolant temp sensor
    tested tps
    checked for vac leaks

im getting no codes now but i have a small aldl log if any1 can spot an issue with it

im replacing the map sensor tonight and if i still have the issue tomorrow i may replace the cas

the log is just in the driveway as my laptop needs a new battery so i couldnt get a driving log but will be soon

Tell me something, Has your car been a touch sick on start ups not just cold but when warm you have been out then stop and jump back in about 20min later and it seems sick till you move off, Anything like that?.

White plugs... that usually means it's running lean. Could be a spark or computer issue. It would explain the high revs and stalling.

It's been weird not really on cold starts but when fully warm myn goes a little low in the revs when i first start it after resting, Starts up and drops the revs pretty low 400-500 then slowly builds up once you move it's perfect, It's been holding the revs slightly when driving.
This is coming from a car that never missed a beat has never been like this before. And mind you it's only been like this since we done the Oxygen Sensor. I have done plenty of things to the fuel system of late that has fixed my economy but only the O2 sensor made it sick on warm start ups till it's had some time to get over it or drive off and it's fine straight away.

What about the throttle body sensor? The car may seam 2 stumble with the revs on takeoff... like its not getting enuf fuel. TBS could be it. Just another sensor to stuff up.

Yep done that, It's funny just remembered this, When i had the car in getting the tranny done they reset the ECU also, And it was holding revs then to but got over it with a adjustment of the kick down i think is what he said.

It's fine moving it's only when you start up when it's warm. I was told i might need a idle control and maybe replace the throttle body but it was adjusted and it seemed fine till now
