    Default Code 13

    This o2 sensor problem has been pissing me off for a few months now. The sensor is about 3 months old. I did all the tests in the gregory's manual and they came up good...but i'm still getting the engine warning light coming on at random for between 3-10secs. So i gave in for the first time and took to an auto elec the other day. I got the car back and the guy said there is nothing wrong with it. "the computer's memory wasnt cleared when the new sensor was put in" . Well i did clear the computer and even then the warning light continues to come on anyway. The issue I have is if I take back and they cant find the problem then there gonna try and charge me again (cost me $110 last time for a stupid response and problem not fixed). I rang the bloke just before and asked him about the labour cost if I bring it back and he said dont know; which in my eyes means I will charge you.

    I have heard that other sensors etc can cause code 13. Eg. temp coolant sensor and someone on here said it was something to do with there alternator.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    I had the same question lol, my pacemakers cause the same issue, perfectly normal, goes away with some aftermarket chips and dyno tunes.

    A heated O2 sensor is another way. The problem with extractors is they dont heat the element enough due to the placement of the sensor.

    I was also told this from my mate Greenfoam, but upon asking my local repco guy he said that there isnt one for my VN (series 2). He rang up the guys in brisbane etc and that where he got his answer for me. I just bought a new standard one and ive only had the light come on once sonce then. I have got pacemaker headers insalled aswell.

    Yes I have Lukey extractors on a series2. The positioning of the sensor is pretty much the same as the original position.The sensor is giving off good voltages, so I though that means its getting hot enough.

    A faulty coolant temp sensor that will tell the PCM that the engine is under 40deg will not let the PCM go to closed loop mode. Whether this will log a code 13 I am not sure atm.

    I think coolant temp sensors can fail at certain temperatures but not others. could be wrong.

    My pacemakers are in pritty much the same spot, would expect them to get hotter lol...

    My point is that a code 13 is no signal from the O2 sensor. The engine not entering closed loop with a functioning O2 sensor should read either a rich or lean condition.
    Either the extractors are causing an intermittent problem with the sensor or there is a bad wire or connection between the sensor & the PCM.
    Have you tried running an extra earth wire from the sensor body to the cars frame?

    no i havent tried that. I will... I have checked the continuity of the two wires from the wiring harness to the computer, they were good. It could still be loose or the plug could be dodgey.
