hey, i changed my radiator fluid yesterday as it was long over due,
anyway apon starting it after letting the fluid / water settle in after flushing it i noticed it was running rich, and sucking more air through the air intake, i gave it some rev's and a cloud of smoke left the exhust, so i took it for a burn down the street, got 50m and it went back to normal, ive had the oxy sensor give a error code before but not at the moment, been getting really random ecconomeny (450km/50L to 250km/50L) its been running rich a fair bit (can smell it while driving) anyway apon idle it occasionally "misses a beat" but then sometimes it idles perfectly, no bumps or anything... ive been told i might have a dodgy detonation sensor aswell, apart from that the engine runs great, its not slugish and now never gets over 1/4 temp
anyway, my question is, think its the oxy sensor and where can i get one from cheaply???
cheers
I am thinking about changing mine aswell. I was wondering how do u know if it needs a new one? How long do they ussaly last. i have had my car for a year now. It has just over 250000km on the clock and im not sure if it has ever been replaced.
sorry for adding to your thread mate. just thought it would be easyer then making a new one.
It may be the O2 sensor, but it could also be the first signs of a coil pack playing up. Especially if the idle is getting worse.
Then again, it maybe a really annoying intermittent electrical fault that will take ages to track down. If it's not coming up code 13 I probably wouldn't bother changing the O2 sensor just for the hell of it, but that's just me.
Gravity is proof that nature keeps getting us down.
get a non-genuine 1 $60-65 from repco or equilivent in your areaOriginally Posted by PaRaDoX616

nope its not coil packs, replaced them recently (upgraded to the tripple coil ones)Originally Posted by mouce
ive had it diagosed before and oxy sensor has come up repeatedly,
they usually last 100,000km yeah??? they're also located in the right side of the headers (visable in the engine bay)
yeah the fact its also running rich/lean occasionally leads me to 1 conclusion, (running new ecu aswell)
btw i got a code 12 (OK) ....
ill keep the paper clip with me and run it next time it runs rich
adam, any diffrence in non genuine ones and genuine ones???i know most of the time there isnt but yeah thought id ask

How do u check what code error you get?

i would get an original O2 sensor as i just fitted one from repco no difference in quality but i had to completely solder up the new one and when i fitted it the thing was a real bitch to tighten cause the bolt part that you tighten almost sits flush on your pipe as for the splattering give your throttle body a clean and the IAC Valve a clean as well or it might be time for a new one
well i brought one, dosnt matter tho just need to get the car to stop blowing smoke and chewing fuelOriginally Posted by stockvp
anyway, yeah TB clean is def needed, can see carbon or something inside the TB, IAC valve could do with a clean, dont think its been done before... cheers
i didnt have a problem with it mine just bolted straight in didnt have to solder anything! you probly just got a real cheap one.Originally Posted by stockvp

It would be the coolant temperature sensor.
It was probably already corroded a bit, then when you cleaned out the cooling system , anything stopping water getting to the sensor was also dislodged.
Now water is shorting out the sensor, the computer thinks you are running a cold engine, so increases the fuel to compensate. I't like running a car with the choke on.
It's not the sensor that does the gauge , it's the other one.
Either that , or you disturbed the wiring going to the sensor whilst cleaning.
I wouldn't jump at (coil packs, O2 sensor) immediately, although they do fail, the common link is you cleaned out the cooling system, so it would more than likely be connected with that. And if you haven't changed an O2 sensor and the car has done at least 80,000 K since you last know it was done, it would be a good idea to change that anyway.

must have, i asked for a series 2 O2 sensor and thats what he gave me and it was totally different but its workingOriginally Posted by _A_D_A_M_
