Hey, I need some advice. Im trying to change my fan speed resistor and Im already stuck with the wiper arms.
I removed the nuts on top of the wiper arms, but they wont budge. I cant get them to come off. I dont wanna pull incredibly hard because its pulling the plastic leaf cover up and I dont want to break it.
Has anyone else had trouble removing the wiper arms before? Why wont it budge!
Cant say I had any trouble with mine, but try spraying some WD40, RP7, etc on the thread and let it sit for 5-10mins and see how you go.Originally Posted by 1991_Vn2nV

I just sprayed some 'Penetrene' on it then....will let it sit for 10 minutes give it a whack and try removing them again...
I was at U-Pull It this morning and took several wipers off with no troubles... This shits me that my car is bein difficult
Only cost me $7 for the fan speed resistor though![]()
No worries mate. Yeh hopefully that should get em off.Originally Posted by 1991_Vn2nV

Ok i got to the fan speed resistor and it turns out it was one of the new ones in my car anyway.
I changed the resistors but nothing happened...its still got the same problem.
Fan speed settings 1, 2 and 3 wont work, but 4 works fine. What else could the problem be????
sounds like a fan speed resister te me... lol ummm check all the plugs are plugged in at the back
Well i swapped the fan speed resistor again with one out of a m8's VS....still a no go so its definitely not the fan speed resistor....
I pulled out the heater/air con unit checked that everything was plugged in and everything was fun.....i unplugged everything and plugged it all back in....
Still not working on 1-2-3.....only 4. What the hell could the problem be?
I guess I have no choice but to go to an auto electrician?
ide just take it in there and ask them what the problem could be... ie get a quote. Tell them you put a new fan speed resister in to..
ohhhh did you clean the terminals and stuff on the resister?? that could be a problem
yeah i didnt think of that man...i cleaned the plugs on the back of the heater unit and stuff.....but didnt think to clean the socket for the resistor!
Bloody hell lol....Now im gonna have to go through it all again....its a frustrating place to get to....
Thanks for the suggestion commy92....nice thinking :-)
There's a little bit of a trick with those wiper arms that makes life easy.
If you have a close look near the base you will see a small hole, put something about that size in the hole with the arm lifted slightly and it takes the pressure off and makes it easy to remove. A small allen key, nail etc, but thicker than a paper clip , they cant take the weight.
This will keep the arm off the windscreen, and stop the spring from forcing the arm away.
ah cool thanks for the tip. I'll keep that in mind when i check the resistor again tomorrow
