Thats because its a Ford Forum and they dont know shit...

They wouldnt know how fast the VN is. Its the fastest standard V6 commodore released, including against the VZ Alloytec.

Oh and i forgot to say its not definite....theres alot of variables as it always depends on the car. Each car is different from factory and at that age it depends on tune, engine and transmission condition, any added weight on the cars etc. etc.

But generally the vn will win

    yeah VN will win.
Auto to auto, both stock , same ks the VN would win to the 100km/h dash. Above this i reckon the ford would pull infront all the way to their speed limiter of 180km/h, but only just.
Remember, ford auto's have a ridiculously tall first gear which slows them down 0-100.
I had one at 95 in first gear hitting the rev limiter, where in a vn i couldn't get any faster than approx 70 at rev limiter.

Yeah the VN should have it fairly easy, mates got an EL and my mates VX can handle it, and i can handle his VX in my VP, Though the ford will reel you in on the high rev range, but you shouldnt have to many dramas....

To street legal speeds the VN will take the cake. To the speed limit of the falcon 180kph, the falcon will get there marginally quicker. After that the VN will just pull to it's top speed of 272kph and leave the ford in its dust.

I wouldnt think a vn would go 272. i got mine to about 190 and it started to struggle and get a bit shaky.

Modeled the car in a computer game, put in all the ratios, the powercurve and everything else. Top speed is way higher than I would have previously thought, but having checked all the calculations by hand, yeah...she'll do about 270kph. The speedo tops out at 220 (or 200) depends on what spec cluster you have.

That said, when mine was moving along at 230kph (private property before you all go nuts at me) the needle was bouncing off the end of the speedo, and the tacho still had a reasonable amount of room between the needle and the redline. I've got no reason to believe that the VN won't hit the top speed if it's got enough road.

i dunno man...the car really dies in the ass in 4th gear...doesnt wanna continue revving from around 4000rpm...it seems to stop. Thats from my experience anyway.

Also i presume it would hit max speed where it hits max power? Which is 4800rpm?

Samuel_18, it's quite weird how Ford owners think there cars are faster than they really are. Over the decades the Commodore has almost allways been faster and more popular than the Falcon, I guess being second fastest for so long starts to cause your brain to go a bit funny. The Ford 6 engine has allways been a more powerful motor than the various 6's in the Holdens but the Falcons are a heavier car and the gearing has allways been stupid and that has slowed them down. When you stick a manual in a Falcon they are exactly the same speed as the Commodore you can see that in the EA vs VN saloon car racing, they both run the same times. There's is one EL Falcon that will *just* keep up the VN V6 and that's the EL XR8, which should be side by side with a VN at 100 and maybe a nose in fron at the 1/4 mile.

    EL Falcon Futura specs

    Power 157kW @ 4900rpm
    Torque 357Nm @ 3000rpm-3000rpm
    Acceleration 0-100Km/h 9.2 secs
    Kerb Weight 1695kg
    Tare Mass 1501kg

    EL Falcon budget model

    Power 157kW @ 4900rpm
    Torque 357Nm @ 3000rpm-3000rpm
    Acceleration 0-100Km/h 8.4 secs
    Kerb Weight 1537kg

    VN V6

    Power 125kW @ 4800rpm
    Torque 292Nm @ 3200rpm-3200rpm
    Acceleration 0-100Km/h 8.1 secs
    Kerb Weight 1310kg

It's all about those 200 less kilos in the VN, you need ALOT of extra power to make up 200 kilos and the EL just doesn't have that much extra power. P.S. The VN V6 speed limit is a soft fuel cut that starts at 210 and stops you at 220, a VN wont go any faster than that, it will show 10-15ks more than real life at those speeds due to speedo error

But this fuel cut could be removed? Any idea what it would top out at then?

Well the V8 has no cut out but air resitance kills them at about 235. I'd say the V6 would be close to that but not quite, they do run up to 210-220 quite easily but then have to shift to 4th and that's a struggle for them

It wasn't the speedo telling me that I was doing 230kph, it was a GPS. So I'm not sure if my memcal has been tampered with or if the GPS is faulty, but I'll stand by what I said, given enough road they should run all the way to redline in fifth.

Anything over 180 in a VN gets hairy, they have more wind noise then a cyclone

Stocky VN vs Stocky EF both auto, VN wins initially, then at about 70-80 km/h the ford zoom's it. The holden engines didnt have long legs. Seen it time after time at clader when stockies do races against each other. By the end of the 1/4 the ford has usually pulled them in.

frommy own personalexperience for a proper 1/4 race the el should jump in front at about 60km/h, with the vn killing it on take off with ease but with that said it also has alot to do with skill of drivers and the conditions of both cars for the outcome and i can vouch for the falcons tall first gears, its a pain in the ass
