I heard you can plug a level 2 cluster with the tacho on the left straite in to your car with no re wireing anyway i got a level2 cluster out of a vn lexen the other day and i replaced it with my level1 cluster and it started smoking a little bit from behind the tacho where it plugs in.Is it because i got it from a vn lexen? when i took the cluster back out i noticed that behind it at the back where the plug plugs in for the tacho that one of them metal strips through the thick plastic that covers the back of the cluster had melted a little bit.I also noticed the plstic on the back of my level1 is blue where as the plastic on the vn lexen one is green does this mean anything?.What do i look for to make sure i have the right cluster is there any special numbers? or anything
Nasty! ................... Wiring differences?
Put both clusters face down an see if all plugs go to the same thing, The plugs should be mapped with wire point names an what they do, check through it if there the same, I dunno man.... Sorry.
Cheers

Thanks for the help fella's but i've got the vn i got the cluster out of a lexen should series2 vn have the level2 dash already?
With looking at both clusters upside down i have done that sort of but on the level 1 cluster the left plug is your fuel the middle is your speedo and the right plug your temp and on a level2 cluster the tacho is on the left and your fuel gauge is on the right with the temp.I noticed on the level2 cluster from the lexen that on the little strip with the indecator and light picture that the lexen had alot more like power, abs, cruise, fuel and stuff like that i'm thinking that i should go for the lvel2 cluster with the green around the dials the same as my level one has should be the same then i hope anyway
nah, series II means ### all in terms of options.... stage II and III is a berlina, calais staesman thing..... so no.... doens't matter if its out of a lexcen though... if its a vn lexcen and a vn commy, no dramas

Maybe i got a bodgy cluster thats why it would'nt just hook straite up with out any problems
I'm going to get another level2 cluster now from the wreckers so i'll let you all know how it goes.
Well got my new level2 cluster works perfect the cluster i got out of the vn lexen looks almost the same but it's differant thats why it smoked i suppose anyway i'm happy now.
how much did u pay for the cluster? did u get it from the wreckers? i need to get a level2 cluster. Is it hard to put in? Do you have to do any rewiring for the tacho because my cluster doesnt have a tacho at all at the moment. cheers

VN/VP Cluster Conversions:
A stage I to II is a simple plug and play swap. Pull your stage I out and slide a II in. From whats been said i am guessing that a lexcen cluster swap is not sugggested.
A stage II to I is the same... why you would, who knows.
A stage III upgrade is alot more complicated. There is a sticky in the VN/VP section. Please read that. All cars (VN/VP) can have a stage I,II or a III with a little modification.
Summary of Stage III Conversion:
1. Modification of exsisting LOOM
2. Additional Buttons Required
3. Modification to ECU loom also required.
SO! if you dont have a tacho dash, you can simply put a same model upgraded dash in its place, pending its only a stage II, with no modification. A stage III needs modding.
No more questions about this. Please.

ask you should make that a new post and get a mod to sticky it. might save a few repeat posts
Good idea. make it a sticky
