Hi guys i need help, i got a new motor in my vp ss cus the old one got stuffed when i went through some deep water. the new motor is out of a 1990 statsmen.
The problem is half the time it idles rough (misses and goes up and down in revs) and when in drive the problem is amplified because of the load, and sometimes when im stopped it stalls. the issue goes away for a short while once you disconect the battery and put it back on.
i took it to a holden v8 specialist (apparently) and he said it was the inlet manifold gaskets. i changed them with new genuine ones. it used to ping too but that went away with the new gaskets. what now?
please help!!![]()

IAC motor/valve in the throttle bodyHIGHLY suspect since this is what it controls

Yep...running rough / missing can only be spark or fuel.
Did you change the memcal / ecu when you put the new motor in ?..Not sure if this will make a difference.
As the other guys said..check all the sensors..IAC, TPS, Knock sensor ?
Goodluck
im an apprentice and often when cars run rough at work it is a sensor of some type. any mechanic should hav an ecu scanner which will tell u if one of the sensors are faulty. im think maybe the air flow meter or MAP sensor but thats just a guessOriginally Posted by WaynoVN
