Ok my cat converter is stuffed will that cause my tacho not to rev out properly?.When on the hwy and put the foot down i get it to rev out just over 3200 somtimes it sits between 1500 and 1800 1900 when i'm sitting on 100k's is this normal ? if i give it i good hard rev in park or nuetral [spelling] what should it rev out to ?.
If your in neutral and you rev it, you should be able to get it all the way to redline if you really wanted to do that to your engine. Sitting on 100kph mine (manual) sits on about 1900, but my tacho is a little 'sticky', so somewhere around that area is about right.
When you're cruising along at 100kph and you boot it, being an auto it will drop down to third (maybe even second) probably, so 3200 to 3500 rpm sounds about right.
Just a word of warning, if your cat is stuffed and you get booked for it, it's a damn big fine. Max penalty is $10000, for the sake of a part which you can normally pick up for about $250-$300, I'd be replacing it.
As for the problem of your tacho, it could be a problem with the cluster, not the engine/exhaust. How does it feel when you're driving?
Gravity is proof that nature keeps getting us down.
YEAH! My tacho seems to be alright going from what you are saying this morning when i booted it on the Hwy it reved out to nearly 4000.As for my cat i'm getting that replaced this week i was going to get one from me mate wreckers to save a few dollars but it's a gamble as who knows how long it will last so i'm going a new one.
i had a blocked cat in my 5L and it struggled to rev over 3-4, in neutral it still wouldn't, and i had shit house power, if you claim that you cat is blocked take it for a drive and have a look under your bonnet, the extractors should be glowing.
THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT
my car sits bang on 1790 Auto (digital tacho) and when i give it some yeah it wll jump up to 3000-4000. but if your dead set it's the cat, then go see a wrecker
Oh! yeah! my cats stuffed it's not bloked but it makes an awfull ticking noise when i got my zorst done when the zorst bloke had it up on the hoist and heard the ticking and it was the auto. But he told me he soon worked out my auto was sweet and my cat is the problem my car seems to rev on the tacho alright but it wont rev over 4000
