hey,
so today i took my cluster out to change over 2 of the bleeding lcd screens,
and the button circit for the trip computer (stage 3 cluster) as the reset button wasnt working
anyway, i whacked it back in the car... all worked fine untill it just froze
so i removed the trip computer plug and put it back in and it just displays the total km/s and i smelt smoke comming from the cluster.. never a good thing
this has happened before and i got it fixed by a auto elec, could he have done a dodgy job and me moving it just provoked it...
as i was putting the cluster back in i heard a spark from the back of the cluster...yet after plugging it all in it worked fine (red plugs)
but it shouldnt spark when plugging it back in carefully...???? (main cluster unit)
all the other functions work (wipers, lights ect)
btw ive got NO cluster functions, i got the cluster tested last time and it worked fine... this times the same... got no speedo, no fuel gauge nothing
i need helppayday is tommorrow and i fear im gonna have to go blow all my cash getting it fixed .... it cost me $70 last time and i assume its exaclty the same issue..
Better idea to disconnect the battery next time, just incase
yeah should of
Ok ok it wasnt a total loss,
trip computer just isnt working now,
the other cluster functions work, (ive got speedo, fuel gauge, tacho and temp gauge)
so its a diffrent issue,
it wont display the km traveled anymore
it just displays random crap... like data isnt being decoded properly, ie due to a missing wire, might take it to the auto elec and see if he can fix it for me![]()
if you have a multimeter check all the resistors, capacitors(if any) and for open circts if you saw smoke you may find the resistor and it might look burned just buy a new one and put it in.
i didnt see it smoke, just smelt it, yeah taking it to my mates house and his dads gonna help me out
UPDATE: took it apart today to discover the data tracks between teh LCD's and the rest of the computer were shorted out (2 of them) apon repairng them it all works fine![]()
